Inside ‘Yellowstone’ Creator Taylor Sheridan’s $350 Million Texas Ranch

Few people have brought the American West roaring back into pop culture quite like Taylor Sheridan. The creator of “Yellowstone” and its hit spinoffs has not only built a television empire, but also quite literally bought a piece of the West for himself. Sheridan’s Four Sixes Ranch in Texas—with a reported value of $350 million—is as cinematic as the shows he writes. The sprawling estate covers 266,000 acres, encompasses three separate properties, and is filled with real-life cowboy charm.

Taylor Sheridan Bought the Legendary Four Sixes Ranch in 2021

Located in West Texas and established in 1870, the Four Sixes Ranch was once owned by Anne Burnett Marion, heiress to the Burnett cattle empire. Following her death in 2020, the property was put on the market for $341 million.

Sheridan, who grew up in Fort Worth, led an investment group that purchased the ranch in 2021 for $320 million. At the time, it was the first sale of the property in over 150 years. Sheridan’s personal ties to Texas and passion for ranching made him a fitting next chapter in the land’s storied history.

“This ranch truly is one of a kind,” listing agent Sam Middleton told The Fort Worth Report at the time of the sale.

A Ranch Fit for Hollywood

The Four Sixes Ranch isn’t just a piece of real estate. It’s a functioning, rodeo-ready spread with all the bells and whistles. The property features over four dozen horse stalls across multiple barns, professional-grade arenas, a 150-foot round pen, and vast cattle pens.

Architectural highlights include a two-bedroom guesthouse, pine and stone interiors, corn crib walls, a pool, spa, and panoramic views of the Brazos River Valley. There’s even a 140-foot outdoor lighted arena and a covered viewing stand.

Overall, there are two homes on the property, multiple apartments, and one newly remodeled mobile home.

“There are truly too many amenities to list,” the real estate listing noted.

The ranch has been used as a training ground for actors at Sheridan’s “Cowboy Camp,” and it’s often featured in his shows, giving them an authentic, lived-in look.

In 2023, Sheridan stirred up some controversy when it was revealed that he was charging Paramount $50,000 per week for his own show to film on his property. Studio execs admitted that Sheridan’s projects can be pricey, with the prequel “1923” reportedly costing a whopping $22 million per episode. But, they were more than happy to pay the bill.

“Taylor’s shows are among our most successful and profitable,” a Paramount spokeswoman said, per The New York Post.

Taylor Sheridan’s Texas Return

Sheridan spent years in Hollywood working as an actor, with roles in shows like “Sons of Anarchy” and “Veronica Mars.” But in 2013, after marrying actress Nicole Muirbrook, he left Los Angeles and returned to his home state of Texas.

“I left L.A. the second I could get out,” Sheridan revealed. “My wife’s from up in Wyoming, and my mother lives up there, so we moved there for a number of years, until I finally convinced her to come try my home state.”

In addition to the Four Sixes, Sheridan owns the 600-acre Bosque Ranch, another filming location and the site of many of his Western projects. He’s turned his properties into a mini-empire, offering cattle rentals for filming and continuing to host training camps for actors and wranglers alike.
