‘Honey Boo Boo’ Star Alana Thompson Reveals How She ‘Honors’ Sister After Death

Alana Thompson rose to fame on her family’s TLC show, “Here Comes Honey Boo Boo.” She is no longer a child, and she prefers to be called Alana, rather than her old nickname, Honey Boo Boo. However, her journey into adulthood has not been without some incredibly low points, including the loss of her sister, Anna Cardwell.

Cardwell was Mama June Shannon’s oldest daughter and Thompson’s half-sibling. She died on December 9, 2023, less than one year after she was diagnosed with stage 4 adrenal carcinoma. Her death has had a devastating impact on her loved ones, but Thompson recently opened up about how the family continues to honor her in little ways.

What Has Alana Thompson Said About Her Sister’s Death?

It’s been over a year since Cardwell died, and in an interview with InTouch Weekly on June 2, Thompson revealed that she and the family speak about Cardwell “every day.” Thompson added that “every little thing we do honors her.”

Thompson is no longer interested in being a reality TV star and instead is attending college to pursue a nursing qualification. “Just, like, me being in nursing school, like, honors her ’cause that’s what she wanted for me. And I mean, we all have her in our house and we have pictures of her,” Thompson told InTouch Weekly.

She continued, “I feel like everything reminds me of her. Like, I’ll just look at a green wall and I’m like, ‘OK.’” The significance of the color is that her sister loved it and painted the inside of her home an army green hue. “Her little urn, or whatever, is sitting, like, on the green wall. I’m like, ‘Anna, you look beautiful.’”

Mama June, who joined her youngest daughter in the interview, also said that Thompson and Cardwell had shared a birthday. They were both born on August 28, but 11 years apart.

How Did Alana Thompson’s Sister Die?

Cardwell was diagnosed with stage 4 adrenal carcinoma 10 months before she died. Mama June shared the news of her death on Instagram on December 10, 2023. She posted a photo of the family and penned a heartfelt statement in the caption.

“With the breaking heart, we are announcing that @annamarie35 is no longer with us. She passed away in my home last night peacefully at 11:12 PM,” Mama June wrote. “She gave one hell of a fight for 10 months she passed away with her family around her like she won’t and we will will be updating y’all with more information as we get it today. We love y’all and continued prayers and thoughts for our family doing this difficult time.”

At the time, fans reacted with an outpouring of love and support for the family.
