Taylor Swift is opening up about her father’s heart issues that prompted an emergency surgery. The former “The Voice” advisor shared more details about her dad’s health during a recent podcast appearance.
Taylor Swift Gives an Update on Her Dad’s Health
During an August 13, 2025, appearance on the “New Heights” podcast with boyfriend Travis Kelce, Swift shared an update about her dad, Scott Swift, who needed quintuple bypass surgery.
The singer called the surgery “really intense,” noting how “it all happened really quick” because he had a “perfect EKG” when he went to his annual physicals.
When he had a resting stress test, doctors found five blockages in his heart.
“So, he’s been telling all his friends, ‘you need to get the stress test because that’s what’s actually preventative.’ If you can find that earlier, you don’t have to have a bypass surgery,” Swift said. “You can sort out those blockages with stents and things that are a lot less invasive.”
The singer shared how her dad insisted she and brother Austin didn’t need to be there when he had surgery. “He said something about like when a cat is injured, it curls up around a tree and heals itself. I was like, ‘Dad, cats don’t have quintuple bypass surgery,'” she said.
Swift also revealed that her dad was in great spirits following the procedure. “He wakes up from surgery, and it’s my mom, my brother, and me, and his best friend … He did like a comedy act, a comedy set for 15 minutes,” she recalled.
Swift added, “He was the funniest he’s ever been, and he’s usually really funny.”
She noted that now “he is doing incredibly well.”
Taylor Swift Moved in With Her Dad for the Summer
Swift was on hand for her dad’s recovery following surgery, and moved in with him to help out.
“And it was kind of wild because it was like, very parent-child reversal in a lot of ways. My brother and my mom and I were each taking shifts in the ICU and staying with him 24/7,” she recalled.
Swift continued, “I’m like, this dude built play sets and swing sets and cribs for me. I’m building his shower chair and his walker, and his bed that goes like [gestures an adjusting bed].”
She noted, “It’s just surreal, man. We just all moved in with him for the whole summer, pretty much.”
Swift shared, “You can’t really walk on your own” after the surgery. “We had a little harness for my dad, just like walking dad on his harness.”
“And he was like the loveliest patient ever,” she noted. “He just kept saying thank you over and over again.”
Swift called the experience “one of the most special things that’s ever happened to me.”
She explained, “Spending all that time with them this summer and getting to … you have those long talks that you don’t have when it’s like a small concentrated period of time.”
