Selena Gomez & Taylor Swift ‘Bonded’ Over Their Jonas Brothers Breakups

Taylor Swift and Selena Gomez have been longtime besties — and it all started with a common connection. The former “The Voice” mentors both dated Jonas Brothers and “bonded” over their breakups.

Selena Gomez Shares How She & Taylor Swift First Became BFFs

During an interview on the August 6 episode of the “Therapuss With Jake Shane” podcast, Gomez shared how she and Swift first met.

“Taylor and I dated the Jonas Brothers. I dated Nick and she dated Joe,” Gomez said. “And everything was, it was cute, we were young. We all know and love each other now, and it’s so cute.”

The “Only Murders in the Building” star continued, “We didn’t know what we were doing … she and I like to say the best thing we got out of those relationships was each other because it was really sweet.”

Gomez said she was 15 when she dated Nick, and Swift was 18 when she dated Joe, noting, “that’s when it was the crazy curly Taylor and she had all these bracelets that went all the way up.”

The singer added, “At that age, we became best friends, bonded over the breakup, as girls do. And then we just stuck around for all the ups and downs that came after — and here we are now 16 years later.”

On July 20, ahead of her 33rd birthday, Gomez took to Instagram to reflect on the past year and included a photo of her and Swift among the images.

“As I prepare to celebrate my 33rd birthday, I can’t help but reflect on the incredible journey that has brought me here. This past year has truly been the most beautiful year of my life, and I owe so much of that to all of you,” she wrote in the caption.

Gomez continued, “Thank you for your unwavering love and kindness. Whether you cheered me on from the sidelines, shared in my highs and lows, or simply offered a listening ear, you have made this year unforgettable. I am extremely humbled and insanely appreciative of all your love.”

The actress shared that she was “filled with excitement and hope for what’s to come” in the upcoming year of life.

“I look forward to sharing more moments with all of you, creating new memories, and continuing this beautiful journey together. MADLY LOVE YOU ALL,” she added.
