Three years after canceling his 2022 tour to tend to his mental health, pop star Shawn Mendes is finally back with his “On the Road Again” tour, starting with multiple dates in Europe. But on August 17, 2025, he treated his London fans to an extra special surprise, bringing his pal, pop star and “The Voice” coach Niall Horan, onstage to sing with him at O2 Arena.
Fans lost their minds when Mendes introduced Horan, who’d just been in Los Angeles filming Battle rounds for Season 28 of “The Voice.” Social media has been flooded with videos from the friends’ onstage reunion, as well as footage of Horan dancing and snuggling at the concert with his girlfriend of five years, Amelia Woolley.

Mendes, 27, shared video footage of the moment when he brought Horan, 31, onstage, including shots of fans screaming in disbelief as the talented pals embraced and sang Horan’s hit song “This Town.” A year earlier, in March 2024, the duo pulled off a similar surprise when Mendes appeared onstage as Horan performed at the same venue on his world tour, per People.
Mendes, who was an advisor on season 14 of “The Voice,” captioned his video of their August 17 reunion by writing, “I’ll remember this for a long time ❤️ Thank you so much London x”
Horan replied with a heart emoji in the comment section, but also shared the post in his Instagram Stories and wrote, “Thanks for having me @shawnmendes ❤️Love ya”
Niall Horan & Shawn Mendes Laughed Over Barely Having Time to Rehearse
The Instagram fan account @niallhflorals shared multiple fan videos from Mendes and Horan’s onstage reunion. In the one above, the pop stars laughed about having very little time to rehearse their duet.
“I was on that broken-down train a couple of hours ago,” Mendes told the audience as Horan smiled broadly. “So we had about three to six minutes to practice this backstage, so go easy on us!”
The crowd then roared as Horan began playing the first chords and sang the first lines of “This Town,” a huge hit for him in 2016. In another video shared by multiple accounts, Mendes sang a verse of the song and Horan beamed as the crowd sang along.
Fans were over the moon about witnessing Horan’s surprise appearance in London, including one who wrote on Instagram, “Seeing them singing together again, this time on Shawn’s tour, is not only a joy, but also a confirmation that all things and everything has its right time! I am very happy and flattered to witness this wonderful moment.❤️”
Another fan who commented on Mendes’ post, drawing over 11,000 likes from fellow fans, wrote, “if u heard a scream from the new york direction it was just me”
Niall Horan Also Enjoyed the Concert With His Longtime Love
Many fans were also delighted to see Horan enjoying the rest of the concert with Woolley. The two did step out for a day of tennis at Wimbledon in July and posed for photos, but rarely go on such public dates.
However, in videos captured on August 17 and shared across social media, Horan and Woolley could be seen swaying to the music, snuggling, and whispering to each other — and even waving and smiling to fans.
Horan, who’s returning as a coach for season 28 of “The Voice,” was scheduled to film Battle rounds on August 7 and 8 with fellow coaches Snoop Dogg, Michael Bublé, and Reba McEntire. However, the U.S. Sun reported that McEntire did not appear due to the death of her stepson, Brandon Blackstock.
Horan is due back at the end of the month, according to ticket manager 1iota, to tape the Knockout rounds. The season will premiere on NBC on September 22.
