Before Michael Bublé was a huge star, he was discovered and mentored by music icons including singer-songwriter Paul Anka and prolific producer David Foster. Nearly two decades later, Bublé has brought that dream team back together to help “The Voice” winner Sofronio Vasquez become a star, too.
Vasquez, who won season 26 of “The Voice” with Bublé as his coach, posted a photo on August 5, 2025, of them together in a recording studio with Anka, Foster, and one of their favorite audio engineers, Jorge Vivo. The Filipino singer wrote that he “thought something like this would only be possible in a dream. And here i am with them 🫡 I cant wait for all of you to hear the music we made. coming soon!”
Michael Bublé Says Paul Anka & David Foster ‘Changed My Life’ as They All Rally Around Sofronio Vasquez
When Bublé was still trying to make a name for himself as a modern-day crooner, Anka discovered him singing in a Las Vegas club when he was 25, according to Atlantic City Weekly. Anka, a world-famous singer-songwriter responsible for megahits from Frank Sinatra’s “My Way” to Michael Jackson’s “This Is It,” took Bublé under his wing.
Anka then asked Foster, a composer and producer with 16 Grammys for his work with megastars from Celine Dion to Josh Groban, to collaborate on Bublé’s first album in 2007. “Call Me Irresponsible” debuted at number on Billboard’s Hot 200 chart, per Atlantic City Weekly.
Nearly 20 years later, Bublé is thrilled to pay it forward. On August 6, he posted the same group photo as Vasquez, as well as a pic of the young singer with him and Anka.
Tagging NBC and “The Voice,” Bublé wrote, “@paulankaofficial and @davidfoster took me under their wings at the very start of my journey and it obviously changed my life. They believed in me when nobody knew my name. Now, together, we get to do the same for @sofroniovasquez. This is what music is about. Legacy, Love and Lifting each other up. I can’t wait for you all to hear it.”
Sofronio Vasquez Chose Michael Bublé as His Coach After a 4-Chair Turn
Originally from the Philippines, 32-year-old Vasquez moved to the U.S. to pursue a music career and attend school in Utica, New York, per the Los Angeles Times.
He instantly got a four-chair turn when he auditioned on “The Voice” for Bublé and fellow coaches Gwen Stefani, Reba McEntire, and Snoop Dogg. But from the start, Vasquez knew Bublé was the coach for him.
Recalling his conversation with Bublé after their big win on “The Voice” in December 2024, Vasquez told American Songwriter, “He told me… ‘You’re going to be working your ass off, and I’m going to be with you. That’s an assurance.'”
The two met up in May to discuss their plans. Vasquez shared two Instagram posts showing they’d reunited in Los Angeles and wrote that he’d “had a very productive lunch with the man himself @michaelbuble. we skipped dessert because we are on diet LOL 😂”
