Kelly Clarkson’s New NBC Show Will Still Premiere Amid Family’s Grief: Inside ‘Songs & Stories’

Although Kelly Clarkson had to cancel her remaining Las Vegas residency shows and will reportedly not film new episodes of “The Voice” while she supports her children following the death of their dad, Brandon Blackstock, the singer’s new NBC show — “Songs & Stories With Kelly Clarkson” — will still premiere as planned on August 19, 2025.

The limited four-episode series, based on a popular segment from Clarkson’s daytime talk show, was filmed before Blackstock’s death on August 7. Each hour-long episode features Clarkson’s in-depth discussions with a different music act, beginning with the Jonas Brothers in the season premiere.

Executive Producer Says Kelly Clarkson’s Series Lets Her ‘Do What She Does Best’

Clarkson not only hosts “Songs & Stories” but also executive-produced the new series, according to Variety.

“There’s a story behind every song,” she says in a promo for the weekly primetime show, which will feature her conversations and sing-alongs with the Jonas Brothers, Teddy Swims, Gloria Estefan, and Lizzo.

Fellow executive producer Alex Duda, who also oversees Clarkson’s talk show, told TV Insider that the new series “allows Kelly to do what she does best — dive deep into the music and combine her musical expertise with her genuine curiosity.”

For the series premiere with the Jonas Brothers, who are on the road celebrating their 20th anniversary as a music group, Duda told the outlet, “They talk through their influences, and we get to hear Kelly and the guys harmonize through some of them — no spoilers! But hint: Some of their influences are Bee Gees, The Beatles, Aretha Franklin, Carol King, which went on to shape their sound and connection.”

According to NBC’s logline for the show, it will give viewers “a front-row pass for Kelly Clarkson to engage with some of her favorite celebrities and examine both their music and personal lives. The specials are a forum where iconic voices meet heartfelt storytelling through unfiltered conversation and sung in an intimate, unplugged setting.”

Kelly Clarkson Recalls Learning the Jonas Brothers Name-Dropped Her in Their 2006 Hit Song

Duda also said Clarkson and the Jonas Brothers perform their hit song “Year 3,000” together. In a preview of the episode, she tells them how wild it was when she learned from a fan that the brothers had name-dropped her in the 2006 hit, a remake of Busted’s original song.

She explains, “I think it was in a meet and greet and somebody (said), ‘Did you hear the Jonas Brothers song?’ and I was like ‘What, no?’ and they were like ‘They say your name!’ and I was like, ‘What!’ I was like, ‘That’s so cool to be referenced in any way in pop culture — I love it.'”

Nick also admits during the episode, “For, like, years — as a way to get our foot in the door — in interviews we’d be like, ‘Yeah we opened for Kelly Clarkson.’ We were not an opener — we were like in a parking lot on the B, B, B, C stage.”

Kelly Clarkson Has Hosted Many ‘Songs & Stories’ Segments & Episodes of Her Talk Show

The idea for the primetime show came from a popular segment on “The Kelly Clarkson Show,” which airs on over 200 stations across the U.S.

She has hosted “Songs & Stories” episodes — including three of her first six seasons’ premiere episodes, Duda told TV Insider — featuring in-depth discussions about music with R&B singer Babyface, country stars Miranda Lambert and Garth Brooks, 90s icon Alanis Morissette, and pop superstar Pink.

“Songs & Stories With Kelly Clarkson” premieres on August 19 at 10 p.m. Eastern time on NBC, with additional episodes airing on August 26, September 2, and September 9.
