Kelly Clarkson Breaks Silence Nearly 2 Weeks After Family Tragedy

Twelve days after Kelly Clarkson’s ex-husband Brandon Blackstock died, the singer and talk show host broke her silence on August 19, 2025, posting on social media for the first time since his August 7 death.

Clarkson’s last activity on social media, on August 6, was a post announcing that Blackstock had been ill and she needed to cancel the remainder of her Las Vegas residency shows to be “fully present” for their children — River Rose, 11, and Remington (Remy) Alexander, 9.

But the singer’s return to social media after 12 days of silence did not address Blackstock’s passing. Rather, Clarkson shared a post promoting her new NBC show “Songs & Stories With Kelly Clarkson” in her Instagram Stories and wrote over it, “Tonight’s the night 🙌”

Fans Are Rallying Around Kelly Clarkson as She Slowly Returns to Public Life

Clarkson also shared NBC’s post via X, formerly known as Twitter, where fans rallied around her and celebrated the four-part, primetime series, which premiered on August 19. The first episode featured Clarkson interviewing and singing with the Jonas Brothers.

One fan replied to her tweet with, “Excellent show!! Thank you, Kelly. So enjoyable And you look great. Take care of you 🥰‼️”

Someone else tweeted, “Already enjoying the first episode. Kelly looks fabulous”

Each hour-long episode of “Songs & Stories With Kelly Clarkson” features her in-depth discussions with a different music act, with future episodes showcasing Teddy Swims, Gloria Estefan, and Lizzo.

The limited series was filmed before Blackston’s death, so NBC moved forward with its airing as scheduled. Clarkson did, however, miss one taping of “The Voice” as her family grieved. Deadline reported on August 19 that Jennifer Hudson, a fellow “American Idol” alum and former coach on “The Voice,” stepped in at the last minute for her.

Clarkson is expected to return to film “The Voice” Battle Rounds on August 21 and 22 in Los Angeles. Insiders at “The Kelly Clarkson Show,” have also confirmed she’ll be back in New York to kick off a new season of the talk show in September, per Deadline.

Kelly Clarkson Hadn’t Been on Social Media Since Her August 6 Announcement About Brandon Blackstock

Before promoting her new series, the last time Clarkson posted on social media was on August 6, when she abruptly canceled her brand new Las Vegas residency shows.

“Unfortunately, I need to postpone the remainder of the August Studio Session dates in Las Vegas,” she wrote in her social media update. “While I normally keep my personal life private, this past year, my children’s father has been ill and at this moment, I need to be fully present for them.”

Clarkson continued, “I am sincerely sorry to everyone who bought tickets to the shows and I so appreciate your grace, kindness and understanding.”

The following day, Blackstock died at age 48 following a three-year battle with melanoma. The former couple was married from 2013 to 2022, though they split in 2020 and went through a contentious divorce.

Blackstock was diagnosed with cancer after their divorce was finalized, according to People, and moved to Montana in 2022. A source close to the family told the outlet that after his diagnosis, Clarkson did everything she could to protect their kids and ensure they had time with their dad.

“When she found out that he was sick, she remained protective of him for their sake,” the source told People. “Kelly has always tried to keep things classy. It became clear earlier this year that Brandon was not doing well. She’s been devastated for the kids.”
