John Legend Says He’s Made Sure to ‘Check On’ Kelly Clarkson During Recent Challenges

John Legend was thrilled to reunite with Kelly Clarkson and Adam Levine in late July to film the Blind Auditions for Season 29 of “The Voice,” calling their reunion one big “love fest.”

On August 2, 2025, Extra released an interview with Legend at the Social Impact Summit, where he was honored as Philanthropist of the Year. While there on July 24, Legend told Extra that “it’s all love” among the trio of judges, despite having to compete against each other for the first-ever “Battle of Champions” season, scheduled to air in the spring of 2026.

Legend has so much love for Clarkson, in fact, that he told Extra that he and his wife, Chrissy Teigen, have made sure to check in on the “Since U Been Gone” singer during her highly-publicized challenges this year, which have included unexplained absences from her talk show and the cancellation of her first Las Vegas residency shows in early July.

“We just shot the Blind Auditions … and it was a love fest,” Legend told Extra of reuniting with Clarkson and Levine in late July. “You know, obviously we’re very competitive, and we still are, but we truly care so much about each other (and) respect each other as artists, but also just as human beings.”

“You know, we’ve been friends, all three of us, for quite a long time. We’ve worked together before, we’ve sung together, and you know, we’ve all grown up. When I started working with Adam and Kelly, we all had, like, really young kids. We were just starting our families.”

Legend continued, “And now, you know, Kelly’s oldest is, I think, in fifth grade (and) my oldest is in fourth grade, and Adam’s got kids around the same age. So, you know, I feel like we’re all growing up together, experiencing that parent life, and figuring out how to do it all.”

Legend confirmed “there always is a group chat” going between the “Voice” coaches. The reporter from Extra then asked, “Did you check on Kelly recently with everything (going on)?”

Legend nodded and said, “We always make sure we check on each other. Chrissy is friends with Kelly as well and checks on her, too. So, you know, it’s all family and it’s all love, and truly genuine, mutual respect for each other.”

“We’re so excited to be working together,” Legend concluded.

Kelly Clarkson Will Return to ‘The Voice’ 3 Years After Leaving for New York

Legend, Clarkson, and Levine will be back together on the set of “The Voice” on August 21 and 22 to film the Knockout round for Season 29, per ticketing agent 1iota.

The announcement of Clarkson’s return to “The Voice” shocked most fans, given that she left the show when she moved from Los Angeles to New York in 2023 with her kids. She and her ex-husband, Brandon Blackstock, share daughter River, 11, and son Remington, 9. After seven years of marriage, the couple split in 2020 and finalized their divorce in 2022.

Despite the change of scenery, rumors have swirled for months that Clarkson is not happy on her talk show, distressed that the schedule keeps her away from her kids too much. In early July, it was reported that “insanely complicated” personal matters contributed to her missing episodes and pushing back the launch of her Vegas residency by a week.

Clarkson may have to miss additional episodes of her talk show in order to tape additional rounds of “The Voice” in Los Angeles and when Season 29’s live shows begin.
