For the first time in 13 years, producers at NBC’s “The Voice” dealt with an unfamiliar void as the 2025 Emmy nominations were revealed and their show wasn’t included.
On July 15, 2025, the first two categories of Emmy nominees were announced during “CBS This Morning,” including for Outstanding Reality Competition program. “The Voice” has been nominated in that category every year since its second season in 2012, according to Deadline, but came up empty in 2025.
‘The Voice’ Has Won 3 Emmys, But Not Since 2017

The 2025 nominees for Outstanding Reality Competition are “The Traitors,” “RuPaul’s Drag Race,” “The Amazing Race,” “Survivor,” and “Top Chef.” The nominees are all the same as last year, but “The Voice” has been replaced by “Survivor.” In 2024, Peacock’s “The Traitors” took home the prize.
To qualify for the 77th annual Emmy Awards, TV shows had to air or be streamed between June 1, 2024, and May 31, 2025, according to the Television Academy. That means two seasons of “The Voice” would have been considered by Emmy voters for the 2025 Emmy nominations.
Within that timeframe, NBC aired season 26 in late 2024, featuring newcomers Michael Bublé and Snoop Dogg joining Reba McEntire and Gwen Stefani on the coaching panel, and season 27 in the spring of 2025 with coaches Bublé, Adam Levine, John Legend, and Kelsea Ballerini, there as a full-time coach for the first time.
“The Voice,” which will kick off its 28th season in September, has won the Emmy three times since the show premiered in 2011, per Deadline — in 2013, 2015, and 2017.
‘The Voice’ Ratings Struggled During Spring of 2025
‘The Voice’ routinely struggled in the ratings during season 27, per data reported by TV Series Finale, including its lowest ratings for a season finale, according to the Voice Views blog, which has been tracking the show since its premiere. Singer Adam David was crowned the winner on the May finale.
Blogger Mark Franklin blamed the ratings rut on multiple factors. On top of competing head-to-head with “American Idol,” Franklin wrote, “Add hand-picked semi-finalists, recap shows and a silly and unnecessary Super Save gimmick, and it’s little wonder fans lost interest.”
Bublé is the only coach from season 27 returning for season 28, which began filming Blind Auditions on July 7. He’ll be joined by Snoop, McEntire, and Niall Horan on the coaching panel.
The show will return to airing two-hour shows on Mondays and Tuesdays in September, according to Deadline, but will shift to airing only on Mondays in October, when NBA games move to NBC.
