Considering how Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani gush over each other, it’s sometimes hard to believe they’ve been a couple for the last decade. The two singers and former “The Voice” coaches seem like a couple at the beginning of their relationship. Their unconditional support and obvious adoration of each other make them #couplegoals for many.
Recently, on “The Drew Barrymore Show,” Barrymore asked Stefani what the best relationship advice she’d ever received was. She replied, “Make sure you have a third party,” referencing God and pointing upwards. While both have been forthcoming about the role of faith in their connection, Shelton recently revealed another key to their success: keeping things feeling “new.”
Shelton Shares ‘Key’ to Their Successful Relationship
With their tenth anniversary approaching this year, Shelton reflected on how quickly the past decade has flown by. “Some of the things that we talk about, we’re to the point in our relationship that it’s like, ‘Oh, remember what happened…’ and you realize, ‘Oh my God, that was 8 years ago!'” he told People. “It’s like, how did this happen so quickly?”
The former “The Voice” coach agreed that “10 years is a long time,” but their relationship “still feels new for me. I feel like that might be the key to happiness, is that it feels just as exciting and new and happy,” the 48-year-old said.
With summer coming up, Shelton seems excited about spending time with the family and continuing the spontaneity of their relationship. “I’m looking forward to the kids being out of school,” he told People. “Gwen and I pretty much have our summers wide open. We both have a few shows here and there, but nothing that’s tying us down to keep us from going and doing something fun. We don’t have any plans — which is our favorite plan.”
Blake Shelton Reveals Details on His New Duet With Gwen Stefani
Shelton will release his latest album, “For Recreational Use Only,” on May 9. He and Stefani have one duet on the album, “Hangin’ On,” although the duo created two. “We were both so fired up about both of them that we ended up holding one back for the next project,” he told People.
He’s also the first to admit that music is such a massive part of both of their lives. Unsurprisingly, it consumes much of their interactions at home, which can have a significant upside. “We live together, so we walk around the house singing these songs all the time and we have months to talk about, ‘Hey, maybe you jump on that part,'” Shelton explained. “By the time we get to the studio, we’re normally really prepared.”
