Ariana Grande reacted to her Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress, taking to Instagram to share just how grateful she is to be honored. The recognition for her role in “Wicked” has her feeling understandably emotional.

On January 23, Grande was announced as a nominee in the Best Supporting Actress category for the 97th Oscars. The other nominees are Monica Barbaro (“A Complete Unknown”), Felicity Jones (“The Brutalist”), Isabella Rossellini (“Conclave”), and Zoe Saldaña (“Emilia Pérez”).
In an Instagram post, the former “The Voice” coach shared her reaction to the news, noting how she was sobbing.
“Picking my head up in between sobs to say thank you so much to @theacademy for this unfathomable recognition. I cannot stop crying, to no one’s surprise,” she wrote in the caption.
Grande continued, “I’m humbled and deeply honored to be in such brilliant company and sharing this with tiny Ari who sat and studied Judy Garland singing Somewhere Over the Rainbow just before the big, beautiful bubble entered. I’m so proud of you, tiny.”
She noted, “Thank you again, from the bottom of my heart, for this acknowledgement @theacademy.”
In her post, Grande thanked the director of “Wicked,” Jon M. Chu “for taking this chance on me and for being the most unbelievably brilliant leader, human being, and most fierce friend.”
She also gave a shoutout to her co-star Cynthia Erivo, who was nominated in the Best Actress category. “I am so deeply proud of my beautiful Wicked family. I am so proud of my Elphie, my sister, my dear @cynthiaerivo. your brilliance is never ending and you deserve every flower (tulip) in every garden,” the singer wrote. “I love you unconditionally, always.”
Grande admitted that she was still trying to find the words following the nomination news. “I don’t quite have all my words yet, I’m still trying to breathe,” she wrote. “But thank you. Oh my goodness, thank you. Universal, Marc, my family, my heart.”
She ended with, “Lemons and melons and pears, oh my.”
In a January 23 interview with Deadline, Grande shared how grateful she was to play Glinda. “It’s my first movie and being able to play this role was the greatest gift of my life,” she said. “You don’t think in your wildest dreams that you’ll be nominated for an Oscar, you know what I mean?”
Grande shared, “It feels beautiful to be in such company that I’ve admired my whole life long. And also to have that warm welcome and validation that maybe I’m in the right place at last. It’s nice to have the work recognized.”
