If your morning coffee felt just a little colder without Whoopi Goldberg and Joy Behar chatting away on “The View,” you’re not alone. ABC’s hit daytime talk show is officially off the air this week. By that, we mean sort of, since no, it hasn’t been canceled. Instead, the ladies have hit pause for their yearly Independence Day hiatus.
That’s right. Goldberg, Behar, Sunny Hostin, Sara Haines, Alyssa Farah Griffin, and Ana Navarro have temporarily swapped the Hot Topics table for beach chairs, passport stamps, and a much-deserved nap. At least, that’s how we see it!
As is tradition, “The View” takes a short break around the Fourth of July to give everyone (hosts and viewers alike) a breather. And just in case you’re wondering, yes, this is all totally planned. ABC is running a lineup of encore episodes from earlier in the season featuring some major star power like Hugh Jackman, Olivia Munn, Angela Bassett, and more. So even if the commentary is pre-recorded, the celebrity sparkle is still very real.
What Will Air This Week?
The million-dollar question several had before the hiatus was surrounding Goldberg. If you thought she was missing even before the break started, you’re spot on. The EGOT winner skipped out on the final week of June to attend events in Italy, including receiving an award for her memoir “Bits and Pieces: My Mother, My Brother, and Me.” It was also announced she would have an appearance on the Italian soap “Un Posto Al Sole. Not a bad excuse to miss a few episodes, huh?
Meanwhile, the other ladies gracefully and successfully held down the table until the official pause began after the June 27 episode. The episode featured “Hamilton” actor Anthony Ramos discussing his upcoming Disney+ series “Ironheart.”
Here’s the rerun schedule in case you want to catch up:
- Tuesday, July 1: Olivia Munn & Amanda Peet; Kit Connor & Michael Gandolfini (originally aired April 10)
- Wednesday, July 2: Angela Bassett; Dawn Staley (originally aired May 20)
- Thursday, July 3: Laurence Fishburne; Audra McDonald (originally aired April 3)
- Friday, July 4: Geri Halliwell-Horner; Marsai Martin (originally aired April 8)
Mark Your Calendars, ‘The View’ Will Be Back Soon
The good news? This mini-vacation won’t last long, as fresh episodes will return Monday, July 7. Expect fireworks, figuratively of course, as the hosts regroup to unpack the holiday, with hopefully a viral moment they encountered.
Season 28 isn’t over yet either; there’s still about a month left before “The View” wraps for its longer summer break in August. So yes, you’ve still got plenty of spicy table talk ahead.
And as always, “The View” airs weekdays on ABC, just not this week.
If you were worried it disappeared for good, you can now breathe a sigh of relief. It’s just summer, and even iconic daytime divas need a vacation.
