Prince William’s Inner Circle Reveals What It’s Really Like Working for the Future King

Prince William may be the heir to the British throne, but according to those who’ve worked with him, he’s already running things like a modern CEO—complete with weekend messages, focused priorities, and a no-nonsense attitude toward results.

Prince William’s Leadership Style: Stringent but Driven

Since the death of Queen Elizabeth II, King Charles III has made good on his promise to modernize the monarchy—and his son, Prince William, is preparing to follow suit with his own vision of royal leadership.

According to The Times, the Prince of Wales plans to shift royal duties away from traditional photo ops and “ribbon-cutting” events toward work with real-world impact. Sources close to the royal household say William values “impact” and “scale” above all and isn’t interested in busywork that doesn’t lead to tangible results.

Though some headlines have painted Prince William as “hot-tempered,” those who’ve worked closely with him tell a different story.

“He’s not one for long meetings or going around the same thing again,” said former cabinet minister William Hague, who worked with William for over a decade. “I’ve often heard him say, ‘There’s been too much talk about that. We need to see some action.’”

Hague also described William as “friendly and personable,” but noted his firm expectations: “You really wouldn’t want to go and tell him, ‘We’ve got absolutely nowhere in stopping elephant ivory being sold.’ He wants to know that you’re getting results.”

Others described him as “stringent,” someone who sends “dozens of weekend WhatsApps to staff,” and is “laser-focused” on execution.

Kate Middleton’s Quiet Influence and the Family’s Commitment to Privacy

Behind the scenes, Prince William’s work ethic is reinforced by his wife, Princess Kate. Though she’s dealt with a harrowing cancer battle in 2024—described by William as “brutal” and “probably the hardest year of my life”—Kate has continued to play a strong role supporting both her husband and the royal institution.

Another source told The Times: “Three words come to mind when I think of William: normal, private, control. These are the things he wants: as normal a life as possible; private time for his family; and control over how he organizes his life and work.”

That same source noted, “Kate is just as strong on control and privacy as him… She’s hugely influential behind the scenes in hiring and decision-making. They approach it as a team.”

Kate’s refusal to engage in PR gimmicks has earned her respect among insiders. Her viral “bench video” in March 2024, announcing the end of her chemotherapy, was reportedly her idea—just as she previously chose to speak on her own terms about her diagnosis.
