Prince Harry Cleared in Sentebale Scandal, Issues Emotional Statement

Prince Harry is breaking his silence after the U.K.’s Charity Commission released findings that clear him of any wrongdoing related to the recent scandal involving Sentebale, the nonprofit he co-founded in 2006 with Prince Seeiso of Lesotho.

On Aug. 5, the Charity Commission announced it found no evidence of “widespread or systemic bullying, harassment, misogyny or misogynoir” at Sentebale, following an investigation into internal disputes led by the charity’s current chair, Dr. Sophie Chandauka.

The regulator also found no evidence of “overreach” by either Chandauka or Prince Harry, who stepped down as patron in March amid rising tensions.

Despite the exoneration, Prince Harry’s spokesperson said the damage has already been done, per People. “Unsurprisingly, the Commission makes no findings of wrongdoing in relation to Sentebale’s Co-Founder and former Patron, Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex,” the statement read.

“They also found no evidence of widespread bullying, harassment or misogyny and misogynoir at the charity, as falsely claimed by the current Chair.”

Fallout Continues Despite Findings

The Commission criticized the charity’s leadership on all sides for allowing the dispute to play out publicly, noting that it harmed Sentebale’s reputation and could undermine public trust in the broader nonprofit sector.

Harry’s spokesperson also expressed concern that the consequences of Chandauka’s actions would be felt most by the children the charity was designed to support. “Despite all that, their report falls troublingly short in many regards, primarily the fact that the consequences of the current Chair’s actions will not be borne by her — but by the children who rely on Sentebale’s support,” the statement said.

A source close to Prince Harry and Prince Seeiso told People that the founders are “devastated” and see no path forward with Chandauka still in place.

“This was Prince Seeiso and Prince Harry’s life work,” the source said. “They established it 19 years ago and in that time put in blood, sweat and tears and their own money into building this charity up to what it was: a multi-million pound charity that delivered nothing but good.”

Former trustees also expressed disappointment in the Commission’s conclusions, stating that concerns they raised were overlooked. “We are disheartened by the way in which the Charity Commission has chosen to ignore key concerns and irrefutable evidence raised with them,” the group said in a statement.

Despite the fallout, Prince Harry remains resolute in his commitment to the region. “Whether that means raising money for pre-existing charities or establishing something new, he will keep his options open,” the source said.
