Meghan Markle is revealing the secret to keeping her love affair alive with husband, Prince Harry.
In an appearance on “The Drew Barrymore Show” that will air Thursday, March 6, Markle says Prince Harry promised her he would never stop courting her.
While speaking to Barrymore, Markle said she used to babysit for a dad who once told her, “Meghan, when you meet your person one day, I want him to say to you the same thing I said to my wife when we got married, which is, ‘I vow to always date my wife.’”
The Duchess of Sussex says she told Prince Harry that story when they first began dating.
“He goes, ‘I vow to always date you,’” she remembered Harry telling her at the time.
And that vow, she says, has made all the difference. “We have this connection, I think, because we’re so committed to treating each other the same way you did before you had a ring on it, before it was locked down — when you’re just courting each other and you can see all the good and joy in that butterfly period,” she said. “That’s, I think, what keeps things really alive.”
Meghan Markle Talks About Connecting With Kids While Traveling
Markle is busily promoting her lifestyle show, “With Love, Meghan,” which just debuted on Netflix. And that has meant leaving her Montecito, California home for appearances like “The Drew Barrymore Show,” which is filmed in New York City.
But she told Barrymore that even when she’s traveling, Markle is intentional about connecting with her kids. “I always make it a point, when I’m traveling, if I can’t do bedtime stories with my kids, because Archie and Lilly are just 3 and 5. So I’ll always pack a really thin book. And I’ll videotape myself reading it. So whoever’s with them or Papa can say, ‘here’s Mama reading your bedtime story.’ You find ways to show up for each other. And if that’s the one thing that I can convey through the show, or ‘As Ever’ as a brand, I want people to know you can show up for each other because you know how good it feels when someone shows up for you,” she says.
Markle Teams Up with Friends for “With Love, Meghan”
The former “Suits” star will be joined on episodes of her new Netflix show by some of her famous friends. Those include former co-star Abigail Spencer, Mindy Kaling, and Tatcha skin care line founder Vicky Tsai.
In the first episode, Meghan teams up with chef Roy Choi to make Korean fried chicken. “The Chef Show” star and cookbook author reminisces with Meghan about growing up in LA while they cook.
In a press release, Netflix describes the show as “blending practical how-to’s and candid conversation with friends, new and old.” Meghan shares personal tips and tricks about creating beauty in unexpected ways. The series includes eight episodes, each 33 minutes long. Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, 40, produced the program via their Archewell Productions company. But don’t expect to see Prince Harry a lot in the series. While there is a glimpse of him walking out the back door with his wife in a sneak peek Meghan posted on her Instagram account, for the most part the prince stays behind the cameras.
