Meghan Markle & Prince Harry’s Netflix Future May Depend on a ‘Secret Weapon’

As with anything involving Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, speculation spreads fast. Last week, reports claimed their five-year Netflix deal—signed in 2020—would not be renewed when it expires this September. But despite the silence from both sides, new sources say the Sussexes might not be leaving Netflix after all. And their biggest asset in the negotiations? Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos.

The CEO Is Quietly Championing Meghan Markle & Prince Harry at Netflix

While Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s current Netflix contract nears its end, industry insiders say a new—and potentially even more lucrative—deal may be in the works. The couple originally inked a reported $100 million agreement with the streamer in 2020, though the exact figure has never been confirmed. According to Daily Mail’s Alison Boshoff, Sarandos remains a vocal advocate for the couple, particularly Meghan, and could play a pivotal role in their next chapter at Netflix.

“Netflix boss Ted Sarandos remains a huge fan, of Meghan’s in particular, and his support is a powerful secret weapon,” Boshoff wrote. She added that a new “first look” deal—similar to Barack and Michelle Obama’s $65 million agreement—is reportedly on the table.

Boshoff also reported that a third season of “With Love, Meghan” is available if the Duchess wants it, and sources say Netflix is considering additional lifestyle content from Meghan, potentially tied to holiday-themed specials. These projects could be announced as early as September, timed with the release of “With Love, Meghan” season two.

Ted Sarandos’s Public Praise Hints at Private Support

Speculation about a split between Netflix and the Sussexes may have been premature. Town & Country reports that negotiations are ongoing, with sources suggesting that the radio silence is not confirmation of a breakup, but instead a sign of careful, ongoing talks.

Netflix has released five Sussex-related projects since 2020, including “Harry & Meghan”, “Heart of Invictus”, “Live to Lead”, “Polo”, and “With Love, Meghan.” While reception has varied, the “Harry & Meghan” docuseries broke streaming records and “With Love, Meghan” pulled solid numbers despite mixed reviews.

Beyond content, Netflix also remains connected to Meghan’s lifestyle brand As Ever. In a February Instagram post, she revealed the streamer is a business partner in her product line. “Netflix came on, not just as my partner in the show but as my partner in my business, which was huge,” she said.

Sarandos later confirmed the partnership to Variety, calling Netflix a “passive partner” in As Ever, which he described as part of a “discovery model.” More importantly, he made it clear that the platform sees long-term value in the couple’s cultural influence.

“I think Meghan is underestimated in terms of her influence on culture,” Sarandos said. “The shoes she was wearing [in the Harry & Meghan trailer] sold out. The Hermès blanket on the chair sold out. People are fascinated with Meghan Markle. She and Harry are overly dismissed.”
