Before “Bachelor in Paradise” returns for season 10, longtime bartender Wells Adams is revealing how the show has impacted more than just his career—it’s influenced his real-life romance with wife Sarah Hyland. The couple, who first connected through Bachelor Nation, are still going strong nearly three years after tying the knot.
How Bachelor Nation Shaped Wells Adams and Sarah Hyland’s
Adams didn’t just find a lasting job on “Bachelor in Paradise”—he also found lasting love, thanks to Bachelor Nation. The reality star turned bartender, 41, recently told People that working on the franchise has taught him a lot about how to make romantic moments matter in real life.
“There’s a whole team of people that set up dates and make them really romantic,” Adams explained. “A lot of times I have to host them or be a part of the dates, so I’ve seen how it all goes down… I’ve utilized a lot of their skill set.”
One of his most memorable “Bachelor-style” moments with his wife? A helicopter ride to Catalina Island followed by zip lining. “If that isn’t the most ‘Bachelor’ date in the world, I don’t know what is,” Adams joked.
Although he didn’t find love during his stints on “The Bachelorette” (JoJo Fletcher’s season) or “Bachelor in Paradise” season 3, the franchise still brought him romance. Hyland, 34, was a longtime fan of the show and began tweeting flirty comments about Adams in 2016. That online banter led to a DM from Adams—asking her out for tacos—turned into a real relationship.

After their playful start on social media, the couple hit it off quickly. “We like to joke when we first started dating that we’re the same person,” Hyland told People TV in 2019. “It definitely felt like meeting a kindred soul from a past life.”
Adams proposed in July 2019, and although their wedding was delayed due to the pandemic, they finally tied the knot in August 2022. Nearly three years into marriage, the couple still keeps things light—though Adams admits he hasn’t planned their next big date. “She’s on a girl’s trip in Italy right now,” he laughed. “So no, we have nothing planned. I probably should plan something.”
Even while Adams is away filming “Bachelor in Paradise” season 10—which relocated to Costa Rica this year—he says Hyland stays deeply invested in the show. “She knows [everything] as it’s happening,” he said. “She’s like, ‘What’s going on with so-and-so and so-and-so?’ So she knows the entire season.”
As for this summer’s installment, Adams teased major changes—including the addition of “Golden Bachelor” alums and “Bachelorette” favorite Hannah Brown as Head of Paradise Relations. “I wonder if she’s a little scared of all the changes,” he admitted. “But I think that she’s excited because I was excited.”
“Bachelor in Paradise” season 10 premieres Monday, July 7 at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
