Fans knew this day would come, but that doesn’t mean they were exactly ready for Patrick Mahomes’ mohawk to be gone. But following his brutal loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX, the Kansas City Chiefs star QB has trimmed his famous locks.
Patrick Mahomes Openly Talked About Changing His Hair Before the Last Super Bowl
Any Mahomes fan who watched the 2023 Netflix docuseries “Quarterback” knew that changing his signature look had been on his mind. In one episode, he told his trainer, Bobby Stroupe, “This is my last year with the hair.”
“The hair is gone next year. I’m going different hairstyle (than) this year. … I almost did it this year but Head and Shoulders would have been mad. I can’t have two kids and a Mohawk.”
Stroupe asked, “Why not?”
“Cause I gotta be a dad at some point, know what I mean?” Mahomes—now the father of three, responded.
“Imagine being 40 years old with this haircut. I mean, come on.”
Now, it seems Mahomes has made good on his word.
New Photos Show Mahomes With a New Look
The Super Bowl was not Mahomes’ only loss this year. Just days after the Super Bowl, his grandfather, Randy Mahomes, passed away. In a newly surfaced picture from his grandfather’s funeral, Mahomes is seen with a much closer crop to the signature curls that have been pouring out of his headband since he joined the NFL.
Fans immediately took to social media to share their thoughts on the Chiefs QB1 rocking a fresh look.
“He’s said he wanted to do it for a while… I can’t believe he really did it! RIP iconic Mohawk and the signature ‘Mahomes’ hairstyle. I really like the new look! Diff vibes for 2025 season,” Chiefs fan Lexi Osborne wrote on X.
“Holy sheesh! Never thought I’d see the day! I like it!” wrote another fan.
Other fans thought it might be the change he needed after his failed attempt at a Super Bowl three-peat.
“It was time to cut it…….he bout unleash his inner red hulk…no more nice patrick mahomes,” one fan predicted.
“I said the league wasn’t ready for short haired Mahomes it’s time,” another shared.
Patrick Mahomes Is Not the Only One In His Family Who Got a Recent Haircut
The Head and Shoulders spokesperson is not the only one in the Mahomes household rocking a new haircut. Brittany Mahomes recently showed off before-and-after photos of 3-year-old Sterling Skye and 2-year-old Patrick “Bronze” Lavon III getting their first haircuts. Not pictured was newborn Golden Raye.
In her post, Mrs. Mahomes was open about her emotional state as she watched her two oldest kids reach this major milestone. Both kids have curly hair like their papa, and Sterling’s hair was LONG!
“Sterling’s first haircut,” she captioned her Instagram story of her daughter’s blond curls lying on the floor alongside a crying face emoji. Her next post showed Bronze smiling while gearing up for his turn. She captioned that post with an eyes holding back tears emoji.
Her final post in the series revealed the before-and-after photos of her kid’s big day. Who knows, maybe that’s the day their dad chose to change up his look as well.
