When it comes to “Survivor” contestants, they all arrive on the sandy shores of Fiji believing they have what it takes to outwit, outplay, and outlast all of their opponents. However, Entertainment Weekly talked with the “Survivor” 49 cast before the September 24 premiere on CBS, and one of the castaways had an especially convincing case for why they could be the one to walk away as the winner of “Survivor” season 49: they were hit by a car on the day they flew out to Fiji.
Nothing Was Stopping This ‘Survivor’ 49 Player

Yes, you read that correctly. One of the contestants on “Survivor” 2025, Jeremiah Ing, was hit by a car on the very day he left for Fiji. While this could have been a sign to wrap it up and hang up the dream of winning the show, he then got a surprise “Survivor” celebrity at the scene.
That sighting transformed the ordeal into a stroke of good fortune. Ing left the scene feeling like a million bucks.
Ing went into more detail when talking with Entertainment Weekly. He said he was flying out for the show when he got hit by a car. He was asking the universe to give him some kind of sign, to make sure he was making the right choice in joining the show.
That is when it happened. Venus Vafa from season 46 proceeded to walk by him.
Because of his non-disclosure agreement (NDA), Ing wasn’t able to say anything to Vafa. However, he said he really wanted to say something to her.
He told Entertainment Weekly that Vafa looked at him with her beautiful brown eyes, and he was like, “I’m going to message you one day, but give me a little bit of time.”
We shall see if getting hit by a car was a stroke of luck for the 39-year-old global events manager from Toronto, Ontario.
Good Thing He Followed His NDA
While Ing followed the rules of the NDA and didn’t talk to Vafa when she walked past him, it looks like some of the other potential castaways for “Survivor” season 49 didn’t do the same thing.
Jeff Probst recently revealed that two castaways were added to this season’s lineup just hours before the season began. The two cast members, 32-year-old Jason Treul and 29-year-old Michelle “MC” Chukwujekwu, did travel to Fiji, but they were originally supposed to be alternates for this season.
However, Probst said two of the original castaways broke the rules by engaging in some kind of communication with one another before filming began. Because of that, they were removed from the cast, and Treul and MC took their place.
“Survivor” 49 will air its two-hour premiere on CBS on Wednesday, September 24 at 8/7c.
