Vince McMahon breaks his silence following the death of WWE legend Hulk Hogan.
McMahon, the former chairman and CEO of WWE, took to X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday to share a rare public comment on the death of the Hall of Famer.
“The world lost a treasure today,” McMahon said in a lengthy statement. “Hulk Hogan was the greatest WWE Superstar of ALL TIME, someone who was loved and admired around the world. He was a trailblazer, the first performer who transitioned from being a wrestling star into a global phenomenon.”
McMahon continued:
“His grit and unbridled thirst for success were unparalleled — and made him the consummate performer. He gave everything he had to the audience whom he appreciated, respected, and loved.
He leaves us with one of his favorite expressions, ‘Train, take your vitamins and say your prayers.’ Today, we pray for him.”
The emotional tribute marks the first post from McMahon’s account since January.
Hulk Hogan & Vince McMahon’s Relationship
Hogan and McMahon’s relationship has been complicated over the years, with several fallouts along the way. In the 90s, Hogan testified in McMahon’s steriod trial.
Shortly after that, Hogan crossed over to rival WCW, further deepening the rift between them. The wrestler’s move was a significant turning point for WCW, helping propel the company to new heights.
This marked the beginning of the infamous “Monday Night Wars,” presenting McMahon with the greatest professional challenge of his career. Ultimately, he acquired WCW, cementing WWE’s dominance in the industry.
Hogan eventually made a comeback to WWE and enjoyed a successful second run. However, he was removed from the Hall of Fame on the heels of racial comments he made years ago.
He would ultimately be brought back, but McMahon would exit the company for good in 2024 due to legal disputes.
Other WWE Stars Pay Tribute to Hulk Hogan
Meanwhile, several WWE legends took to social media to share heartfelt tributes, honoring Hogan’s legacy.
Rick Flair, 75, expressed shock at the news of Hogan’s passing.
“I am absolutely shocked to hear about the passing of my close friend Hulk Hogan! Hulk has been by my side since we started in the wrestling business. An incredible athlete, talent, friend, and father! Our friendship has meant the world to me.”
The Undertaker, 60, shared on X: “The wrestling world has lost a true legend. His contributions to our business are immeasurable, and for that, I am appreciative. Thank you, Hulk Hogan.”
Triple H wrote in part: “WWE would not be where it is today without the larger-than-life characters that compete in the ring. And few, if any, loomed larger than Terry ‘Hulk Hogan’ Bollea.”
