Iconic NFL player turned coach Deion Sanders was diagnosed with bladder cancer earlier this year. More recently, the news was revealed that Deion, known as “coach prime,” had undergone surgery to have his bladder removed. Now, Brett Favre has reacted to the news about his friend and colleague.
Luckily, Deion Sanders wasn’t alone during his health journey. This is the case as his rumored girlfriend, actress Karrueche Tran, was by his side for the lifesaving procedure. He’s now cancer-free following doctors’ removal of his bladder.
Brett Favre Spoke Out About Being Shocked By Deion Sanders Having Cancer
Many of Deion Sanders’ NFL and general entertainment friends have offered kind words after learning of his health journey. Brett Favre is one of the latest. The NFL legend spoke to TMZ Sports and revealed that he was shocked by the news but not surprised by how hard Deion fought.
Brett said to the outlet, “Thank God they found it, and it was a successful surgery. But I was completely caught off guard with the news, but I’m thankful that the prognosis looks good.” He then said that Deion “played every play in practice as if it were the Super Bowl-winning play.”
Brett Favre continued, “So, I’m not surprised he’s digging his heels in and is going to keep coaching.” Notably, Brett was recently diagnosed with Parkinson’s. When asked if he had advice for Deion Sanders, the NFL legend remarked, “Not that he needs my advice, but just keep doing what you’re doing. You’re impacting so many people, and so many people are pulling for you, just keep it rolling.”
Regarding their shared history, Deion Sanders and Brett Favre played together for the Atlanta Falcons in 1991. Their time together was only for a season, but it seems they maintained a bond with one another.
He Will Continue Coaching
Deion Sanders is currently coaching the Colorado Buffaloes. According to Sports Illustrated, he plans to continue his coaching duties for the upcoming 2025 season.
Deion Sanders said, “I always thought I was going to coach again. I never didn’t realize I was going to coach again. I was always going to coach. It was never in my spirit, in my heart, that God wouldn’t allow me to coach again. I never thought like that.” He added, “I didn’t want to be running down to the hospital once a week when I got all this on my plate. I didn’t want that.”
Regarding people assuming he was going to retire, he said at his press conference, “I know you’re probably thinking something’s going to happen today that ain’t gonna happen.”
He then said, “I don’t know where you get the news from.”
