MLB pitcher Bobby Jenks, who died on Saturday, July 5, 2025, was honored during a special moment arranged by the Colorado Rockies during a game which took place the same day.
Sports Illustrated says Jenks’ former team, the Chicago White Sox, faced off with the Rockies on their home turf, and the hosting team called a moment of silence “to honor Jenks and the White Sox.”
The Rockies also acknowledged Jenks in an X post, writing, “Our thoughts are with Bobby Jenks’ family, friends, former teammates and the White Sox organization during this most difficult time.”
Men’s Journal says Jenks left behind a wife, actress and entrepreneur Eleni Tzitzivacos, with whom he shared two children. He shared four more children with his ex-wife, Adele Romkee, per the outlet.
Bobby Jenks Passed Away After Stomach Cancer Battle
The White Sox, for whom Jenks played from 2005 to 2010, announced in a July 5 Instagram post that the pitcher passed away in Sintra, Portugal on July 4. The organization says Jenks “been battling adenocarcinoma, a form of stomach cancer.”
MLB.com says during the 2005 season, Jenks “became the first rookie in major-league history to earn the save in the clinching game of the World Series in Game 4 at Houston with a scoreless ninth inning.” The site’s bio for him also highlights that Jenks “was the first rookie to finish the clinching game for the winning team in the Fall Classic since the Dodgers’ Larry Sherry won Game 6 of the 1959 World Series.”
After finishing his career with the White Sox, for whom ABC News says he played a total of 173 games, Jenks played for the Boston Red Sox for the 2011 season.

“Who’s coming out to see me at @bwrchicago?” asked Jenks in his final Instagram post, which he shared in March 2020 before going quiet on social media. After the athlete’s July 5 passing, fans flooded the comments of the post with tributes and memories of his career.
One fan wrote, “You’ll never be forgotten. Thanks for all of the memories. R.I.P. big fella.”
Another said, “Remember you closing out my Astros in the World Series 05 RIH.”
A third person commented, “RIP Bobby 😢😢😢 some good battles with my guardians. Forever a legend.”
Fans also shared their condolences on the Instagram page of Jenks’ wife. One wrote, “My deepest condolences,” before leaving flower and dove emojis.
Another shared three heart emojis and said, “all my prayers, love, and support.”
