The 55-year-old “General Hospital” star took to Instagram on Tuesday, July 15, to share an incredible backflip video that showcased both his athletic abilities and incredibly fit physique. The post featured Mathison performing a backflip off a sand dune in Oregon, which inspired him to compile a collection of his most daring stunts from around the world.

“Doing a backflip off the top of this Oregon sand dune … got me curious about all the places I’ve done this madness🤪,” Mathison captioned the post. The compilation included shirtless shots that displayed his toned body while performing various acrobatic feats.

The actor’s impressive physical condition becomes even more remarkable when considering the health challenges he has overcome in recent years. Mathison has been open about his battles with degenerative bone disease and kidney cancer.

His Instagram post showcased backflips performed in exotic locations spanning multiple continents, showcasing his commitment to maintaining an active lifestyle despite past health setbacks. The locations included Greece, Fiji, and France, among others.

“Other photos…. Greece, Fiji, Philippines, Australia, France and everywhere possible,” he shared. The post concluded with additional stunts that weren’t backflips but still highlighted his love for adrenaline-pumping activities.

Health Journey and Transformation

Mathison’s impressive physical condition didn’t come without significant challenges and setbacks. The actor has been transparent about his health struggles and the journey required to achieve his current fitness level, particularly after facing multiple life-changing events.

Earlier this year, Mathison experienced a devastating loss when the L.A. wildfires destroyed his family home in January. The traumatic event significantly impacted his physical and mental health, causing him to lose weight and motivation for maintaining his fitness routine.

“We all respond to stress and tough times differently. Some of us lose weight, some gain, some lose motivation altogether. For me, it’s easy to get off track under pressure—but I’m super grateful to be back at a healthy weight with energy, strength, motivation, and perspective. Grateful for the reset,” Mathison wrote on Instagram.

The actor revealed that he had dropped to 180 pounds during this difficult period. However, has since recovered to 195 pounds with a body fat percentage of less than 10%. His recovery involved working closely with a functional health coach who helped him develop sustainable habits and practices.

“I lost a lot of weight. I lost my appetite. I lost my motivation to work out and keep my healthy habits. It happens under severe stress,” he explained in a video post.


New Business Venture in Health Coaching

Mathison’s transformation has inspired him to help others achieve similar results through a new business venture. The actor announced plans to launch his own functional health coaching company called HEALTH360. He is drawing from his four-year experience working with a health coach.

“I really can’t say enough about having a functional health coach. I’ve had one for the last four years, and it’s been a complete game changer for me. So much so that I’m going into business with them to launch my own functional health coaching company… HEALTH360. Coming soon,” he shared.

His approach to health recovery involved multiple strategies, including careful attention to macronutrients, proper sleep, cortisol level management, and extensive meditation practices. He emphasized the importance of consuming nutrient-dense, non-processed foods and engaging in low-intensity cardio exercises.

“My macros, my calories, counting protein, fat, carbohydrates, getting good sleep, watching my cortisol levels, lots of meditation,” he detailed about his recovery process. “I slowly was building muscle back up again.”
