‘Deadliest Catch’ Star Sig Hansen Gives Health Update

Sig Hansen is speaking out to let fans know how he and his wife, June, are doing after their prior health battles. The crabber’s show, “Deadliest Catch,” documented his 2016 heart attack, and Entertainment Weekly says he was hit by a second heart attack in 2018 after a reaction to antibiotics. The fisherman told them at the time, “My wife and I were driving and I started to swell up, my throat, hands, everything. I was choking out on the interstate. She called 911, I kept driving 100 miles an hour and went right to the ER. The nurse said I probably had less than 10 minutes.”

After surviving the tumultuous incident, Hansen bravely battled back from another blow when he learned during season 15 of his show that wife June had cancer, according to Country Living. Fortunately, her diagnosis was made early enough for effective treatment, and the magazine said they were told by Discovery reps that June was “doing fine” two months later.

Now, the reality star has given a new update on where the couple’s health currently stands. Read on for details.

Sig Hansen Spoke Out About His Health In Parade Exclusive

Parade says the seaman exclusively opened up to them about his current health status while promoting the upcoming 21st season of his popular show. Fortunately, he has good news. Hansen says his doctors have told him his heart is “20 percent stronger,” and that he has partially quit smoking cigarettes. “I despise cigarettes, but they are very addicting,” he explained.

Hansen also has good news about June, saying she is joining him in his regime of daily walks and healthy eating. He also revealed he views his packed schedule as a positive. “I’m always busy, and for me, that’s healthy,” he said.

Sig Hansen Speaks On Retirement

Earliest this month, Hansen spoke out about his decision to step down from the position of ship’s captain. He said in a People exclusive published August 1 that he wants to spend more time with his family, and has a “been there, done that” mindset towards being out at sea.

He also reflected in the interview about the daring trip he took this year into 50-foot seas. “We went as far west as we legally could up above there, so it was pretty nostalgic for me,” he said, explaining how he felt about traveling farther West than anyone has in the past 30 years, and hitting an abandoned Alaskan island in the process.

Hansen’s daughter, Mandy, is carrying on his legacy and stepping into her father’s shoes as a ship’s captain. “My daughter impressed me,” he said of watching the 30-year-old mother of one take control of her own boat.
