“Naked and Afraid Apocalypse” is the latest offering from the “Naked and Afraid” franchise, and Season 1 aired on Sunday, July 27, at 8 p.m. EDT on Discovery. We are now headed into Episode 3, and ahead of the show, some important questions need to be answered and a few spoilers need to be discussed!
Where Is ‘Naked and Afraid Apocalypse’ Filmed?
As the name suggests, “Naked and Afraid Apocalypse” has a post-apocalyptic theme and is set in an African wasteland. The exact location is unclear, but it is somewhere in South Africa.
The 12 survivalists, a mix of “Naked and Afraid” veterans and newcomers, are split into four teams as they attempt to survive in a location that experiences harsh weather conditions and is frequented by dangerous animals and snakes.
“In locations long abandoned by humans, the survivalists face the franchise’s toughest challenge yet as they endure extreme heat and drought as well as unpredictable lions, elephants, black mambas and more without food, water and clothing,” the synopsis for the show reads, People reports. “Four teams are dropped into forgotten corners of South Africa – spanning a ghost town, a vehicle junkyard, a cemetery, and even a mine shaft – where they must scavenge the wreckage for resources.”
Who Is the Cast of ‘Naked and Afraid Apocalypse’
Fans of the show will recognise three competitors from their earlier involvement on the “Naked and Afraid” franchise. They are: Steven Lee Hall Jr., Amber Hargrove, and Waz Addy.
These veterans will be joined by contestants from different corners of the world, from Florida to Australia. They are Miranda Adams, Teal Bulthuis, Frank Eytcheson, Wes Harper, Steven Kelly, Joseph Prouse, Kelly Roske, Russell Sage, and Alexa Towersey.
What Makes the Show Different?
The survivalists must do more than tough out their conditions; they must “find their way back to civilization,” People reports. This will add an interesting new dynamic to the show. It will also make it a lot harder for the contestants.
While trying to navigate in these harsh conditions, survivalists “must also battle relentless threats from apex predators, endure punishing heat, and navigate constant dangers from rusted metal and broken glass,” the synopsis reads.
Spoilers for ‘Naked and Afraid Apocalypse’
The show has already proven to be incredibly entertaining, but it’s not been without its challenges and medical interventions. Fan favorite Amber had to pull out of the competition when a thorn pierced her eye, and it became infected.
Russell chose to leave the show. In a short clip from the show that was shared on the official “Naked and Afraid” Instagram account, Russell taps out. He reveals that despite the medics saying his vitals were fine, he “can’t function.”
Miranda has also struggled on the show, having to be assisted by a medic after a sudden drop in energy.
And perhaps the most terrifying encounter was when a curious lion approached the shelter. A short clip was shared on the official Instagram account. It’s enough to send shivers down the spine, and fans reacted to the post. Comments include, “Absolutely terrifying,” “wow,” and “first episode was nail biting.. i am worried for all of them.”
