Dr. Terry Dubrow is a successful plastic surgeon who makes a living helping people achieve their aesthetic goals, but he is warning against going overboard with procedures. According to Dubrow, he’s seeing a trend in which “aging is becoming a disease” for stars and non-celebrities alike.
“Some people do have a certain amount of BDD, body dysmorphic disorder,” the star of “Botched” told Fox News. “And I think there’s a spectrum of it, and some people, not necessarily celebrities, but some people just may do plastic surgery for not the greatest reasons, and they’re trying to pursue perfection.”
Dubrow, who often appears on “The Real Housewives of Orange County” alongside his wife Heather Dubrow, feels that social media is partially to blame for people wanting to alter their appearances to an extreme degree.
“Everybody is portraying … through filtering and other processes – now AI, of course, is going to be influencing that – idealized versions of themselves,” the surgeon explained. “And celebrities are now transparent, admitting to plastic surgery, and are looking really good. So aging is becoming a disease.”
Dubrow Referenced an Actor Who Took Surgery Too Far

In his efforts to express why female actors might want to be more conservative with their cosmetic procedures, Dubrow offered up “Dirty Dancing” star Jennifer Grey as an example. Grey famously underwent rhinoplasty in the late ’80s that rendered her nearly unrecognizable to fans.
“If you’re a female celebrity who’s gotten older, it’s OK to look a little different, just as long as you don’t do the sort of … Jennifer Grey thing,” Dubrow shared, adding, “then you’re out of the industry because you changed your whole look.”
Grey herself acknowledged this is in her 2022 memoir “Out of the Corner.” “Overnight I lose my identity and my career,” she revealed in an excerpt of her book published by The New York Times.
There Are Celebs Doing it Right, According to Dubrow
In terms of a “less is more” approach to cosmetic surgery, Dubrow noted that there are certain stars who seem to have struck the right balance. Among them is Brad Pitt. “What I love about the way Brad Pitt looks, and I have no inside information about Brad Pitt, is he looks like Brad Pitt. He looks unaltered,” Dubrow shared.
The doctor also praised Lindsay Lohan for choosing procedures that maintain a natural look. “Whatever she’s done was done really well,” Dubrow said. “I think whatever she’s done, it’s worked.”
Lohan has not admitted to having had any major work done but she did tell Elle in May, “Everyone does Botox.” Lohan went on to say she drinks a lot of healthy juices, and shared a bit of her skincare routine. “I’m trying out some serums now that I’m doing … Also, I’m a big believer in ice-cold water on your face when you wake up,” the actor said.
