Bethenny Frankel is Raising Her Daughter Bryn to be Thrifty

“RHONY” alum Bethenny Frankel may be worth $80 million, but she’s raising her daughter, Bryn, to understand the value of a dollar. “I want her to never be sitting at a table and not be able to afford something,” she told Us Weekly. “But by the same token, that’s why I’m successful.”

The Skinnygirl mogul clearly doesn’t spoil her daughter and wants her to understand that her money was hard-earned. “She’ll say, like, ‘Why [can you have something that I can’t]?’ I’m like, ‘Because I’m a woman in her 50s that worked really hard,'” Frankel shared.

But it’s not always so simple. Frankel doesn’t want Bryn to have it as difficult as she did before she became successful, but isn’t quite sure how to create a healthy balance. “You’re never going to be able to instill that hunger in them, you can’t just create that,” she explained. “I’m not going to make her, you know, take the train when I’m flying first class.”

Frankel Is Strict With Bryn’s Allowance

Frankel and Bryn, 15, are close-knit and recently made a big move from Connecticut to Miami, Florida. “Something has arisen that made this the best and healthiest decision for myself and my daughter,” Frankel shared in an April Instagram post.

While Frankel has her daughter’s best interests at heart, she is not one to shower her with expensive items, except on certain occasions. “For special things –— she gets a good grade, it’s Valentine’s Day — I try to do my best to not make it every day,” she said.

And Bryn does receive an allowance, but according to Frankel, “she does not spend it.” “She doesn’t get a boba without asking me,” Frankel revealed. “She has a very healthy fear of me. I see her in her Notes app, writing down every latte she gets.”

She also shared that if Bryn wants something, Frankel will use her allowance to pay for it. For instance, a specific hair serum that Bryn wanted to try. “I’m like, ‘Bryn, do you know how many millions of dollars of hair serums I get?’ But she’s like, ‘I like this one.’ I go, ‘Great, it’s coming out of your allowance,'” Frankel said. “I couldn’t stomach the $32 — [it went] against the fiber of my being.”

Frankel Allows Bryn a Little Bit of Luxury

When it comes to style, Frankel says her daughter is a big fan of thrift-store shopping. But she does occasionally make note of her classmates’ love for luxury labels. “She’s mentioned that some of the kids have labels and she doesn’t. I’ve talked to her about what that means emotionally,” Frankel said.

But when it comes to raiding her mom’s closet, Frankel is pretty cool about it. “I had a pair of Louis Vuitton slides that I wasn’t wearing, and she loves them, and she wears them every day,” she shared. “So it’s OK for her to flex a little.”
