Revered Singer Passes Away & Tributes Flood In After Impressive Career

The music industry is currently in mourning as legendary singer and songwriter Terry Reid has passed away. The acclaimed singer was revered for his powerful singing voice and was even known as “superlungs” by fans and industry colleagues alike. Notably, he turned down being the lead singer for Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple. Terry Reid was 75. 

According to The Guardian, Terry Reid, a native of Cambridgeshire, England, is survived by his wife, Annette. Sadly, he had been receiving cancer treatments in the months leading up to his passing, and there was even a crowdfunding setup to aid in paying for the medical costs. 


Music Fans are Flocking to Social Media to Tribute Terry Reid

The world didn’t know Terry Reid for big hits like many of his contemporaries. However, he made critically acclaimed music that has withstood the test of time. As a result, many are taking to social media to remark on the legacy he leaves behind.

Jimmy Steinfeldt on X said, “My friend and neighbor Terry Reid passed away today. a great singer, musician, performer. I photographed Terry through the years, and in this photo at #thejoint in #losangeles. Sincere condolences to his wife, Annette, and his family. Rest in Peace, Terry.”

Additionally, Craig Johnson David said on X, “Gutted to hear the news of the passing of one of the most legendary songwriters ever to live ‘Terry Reid’ I had the pleasure of supporting Terry on a few occasions always a gentleman and always up for a rowdy good time, another national treasure gone! Cjd. x”

The tributes didn’t end there. Another person, Sarcastic Fringehead, recalled what Aretha Franklin said of Terry Reid’s talent. They wrote, “In the 60s, Aretha Franklin said, “There are only three things happening in England: The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, and Terry Reid.” I only got to see him once, and sadly, never will again. RIP Superlungs”


He Was a Lifelong Lover of Music

Terry Reid’s musical achievements date back to his teenage years. According to Billboard, he formed a band called The Redbeats at the age of 13. Later, at 15, he joined Peter Jay and The Jaywalkers as their guitarist. The success continued as the band accompanied The Rolling Stones in 1966 as a supporting act on their UK tour. Notably, Ike & Tina Turner were on the same tour. 

He later went solo and joined The Rolling Stones again in 1969 for another tour. Notably, he turned down Led Zeppelin in 1968 due to his desire to lead a solo career. He turned down Deep Purple the following year. His debut album, “Bang, Bang You’re Terry Reid,” was released in 1968. Terry remained active in music up until his passing.
