Sydney Sweeney Balances Heartbreak And Career With Grace During “The Housemaid”

Sydney Sweeney may have been privately navigating heartbreak, but on set, the actress proved she’s a consummate professional.

The 27-year-old “Euphoria” star was in the midst of ending her seven-year relationship with fiancé Jonathan Davino when filming began for her upcoming movie “The Housemaid.”

Sydney Sweeney Stayed Professional During Breakup

Director Paul Feig praised Sweeney for her focus and talent, telling the Wall Street Journal that she never let her personal life affect her work.

“She was completely present emotionally,” Paul shared in the Aug. 20 interview. “Just up for anything, and really didn’t bring any issues to set.”

Feig admitted that he was aware Sweeney was facing challenges in her personal life, including the end of her engagement. “And I know she was going through some things when this was going on—I mean, now everybody knows about her engagement falling apart and breaking off and all that,” he explained.

Even with the rumors swirling, Sweeney remained composed. “I’d say, ‘Hey, are you OK?’ and she’d go, ‘I’m fine, I’m great!’ but not defensively,” Paul recalled.

Sweeney herself confirmed the split during a May 31 interview with The Times. When asked if a wedding was still on the horizon, she responded simply, “No.” Asked if she was single, the actress replied, “Yes.” She added, “I’m learning a lot about myself, spending more time with my friends. And I’m loving it.”

The ‘Euphoria’ Star Is Focusing On Work And Future Projects

According to People, insiders say Sweeney and Davino’s relationship had been “rocky for a long time.” The source explained that while the relationship left her overwhelmed, Sydney’s career is where she feels most grounded.

“She’s exactly where she wants to be,” the insider said. “Most people would feel overwhelmed by her working schedule this year, but not Syd. She’s all about working right now and very excited about all her projects. What did make her overwhelmed, though, was her relationship and her wedding. She didn’t feel right about it.”

Sweeney is certainly keeping busy. In addition to leading “The Housemaid,” based on the bestselling novel, she will portray real-life boxer Christy Martin and screen star Kim Novak in upcoming films. And, of course, a new season of “Euphoria” is also in the works.

“She’s in the middle of this magical career that she could only dream of a few years ago. This is what she wants to focus on right now,” the insider added, noting that Sydney is “not ready to settle down.”
