Mindy Kaling Opened Up About Why She Created The Show in a December Interview

Mindy Kaling decided to use some of her own experience, going to a small school in New England, as inspiration to create “The Sex Lives of College Girls.”

“The great thing about the series is it’s about the sex lives of college girls, but what I think it’s really about is about the friendships between these young women,” she told ‘Good Morning America’ in a December 2024 interview. And they’re starting sophomore year at this East Coast college. I went to an East Coast college in New Hampshire, and I just really wanted to see a show that really captured what that felt like.”

“I think the power of female friendship is at the heart of all my shows. It’s gotten me through all the toughest times in my life,” she added. “In this one too, it’s like all the women are ambitious and they have big desires and wants, but they learn that thing that they need is not necessarily the thing that they want.”
