Opening Up About Her Weight-Loss Journey

Alongside her glamorous vacation updates, Williams is also being candid about her health. The tennis champion revealed to People in a report published on 21st August that she has been using a GLP-1 medication to help with weight loss and has shed more than 31 lbs.
“I feel great,” Williams said. “I feel really good and healthy. I feel light physically and light mentally.”
Postpartum Struggles After Motherhood
Williams explained that her weight challenges began after giving birth to her first daughter, Alexis Olympia, in 2017.
“I never was able to get to the weight I needed to be no matter what I did, no matter how much I trained,” she said. “It was crazy because I’d never been in a place like that in my life where I worked so hard, ate so healthy and could never get down to where I needed to be at.”
The 23-time Grand Slam champion said it was especially frustrating since she had always prided herself on hard work. “I had never taken shortcuts in my career and always worked really hard. I know what it takes to be the best,” she explained. “So it was very frustrating to do all the same things and never be able to change that number on the scale or the way my body looked.”
A Fresh Start After Her Second Baby
Her struggles continued after welcoming her second daughter, Adira River, in August 2023. Williams recalled that while she initially dropped weight quickly, her progress came to a halt.
“I was able to lose a lot of weight in two weeks, but then remained stagnant afterwards,” she shared. “I never lost another pound.”
The tennis icon admitted she wondered if she would ever get back to where she wanted to be. “I just thought, gosh, I don’t know if I would ever be able to get back to where I needed to get to,” she said.
Williams says she feels lighter, healthier, and more confident, both physically and mentally.
