Rachel McAdams is making it known she is still part of the Hollywood scene and is grateful for that! It’s rare whenever McAdams is spotted out in public; at times, it feels like seeing a unicorn, unexpected, dazzling, and very rare. But, this week, the 46-year-old actress gave fans a glimpse of her off-screen life. The actress was spotted as she touched down at Los Angeles International Airport with her longtime partner, screenwriter Jamie Linden.
The notoriously private couple, who have been together since 2016, arrived at LAX on Aug. 20. Both were pretty much casually dressed and very much in sync. It was a blink-and-you ’ll-miss-it kind of outing, but for McAdams fans, these candid appearances are pure gold!
From Mean Girl to Movie Mom
McAdams shot to fame in the early 2000s with two roles that cemented her status as Hollywood’s new favorite leading lady. We have the unforgettable Regina George in “Mean Girls” (2004) and Allie Hamilton in “The Notebook” (2004). The latter made her one of the most successful actresses at that time, and has remained a romance favorite in the industry for years!
From there, her career took her through thrillers like “Red Eye,” rom-coms like “The Vow,” and even the MCU as Dr. Christine Palmer in “Doctor Strange.”
But while McAdams has remained a bankable star, she’s also been selective about her career. In fact, she famously stepped away from the spotlight in the mid-2000s, turning down major roles in films like “The Devil Wears Prada” and “Iron Man.” Yes, can you believe we were going to get McAdams instead of Gwyneth Paltrow? We still wonder what that would look like today!
But, deciding to take a little break, she told Bustle in 2023, “I felt guilty for not capitalizing on the opportunity that I was being given, because I knew I was in such a lucky spot. But I also knew it wasn’t quite jiving with my personality and what I needed to stay sane.”
That intuition seems to have paid off! McAdams has since returned with memorable performances in projects like “Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret” in 2023, where she played Barbara Simon. Her character made a major impact on viewers as she portrayed a mother balancing life, love, and parenting. She admitted that being a mom in real life has shaped her acting. “It’s great to play a mom as a mom. I’ve played moms before in the past for probably the last decade. But it’s a different experience when you have done it in your real life, too,” she told E! News.
Love, Linden, & Life Off-Screen
As for her personal life, McAdams and Linden would rather keep that aspect of their lives private. The couple shares two children, a son born in 2018 and a daughter born in 2020, whose names they’ve never publicly revealed. McAdams has been open about her desire to shield her kids from the spotlight, telling The Sunday Times in 2018, “I want to keep his life private, even if mine isn’t. But I’m having more fun being a mum than I’ve ever had. Everything about it is interesting and exciting, and inspiring to me. Even the tough days—there’s something delightful about them.”
Linden, for his part, is no stranger to Hollywood. The screenwriter is best known for penning “Dear John” and “We Are Marshall.” Before meeting Linden, McAdams dated several high-profile partners, including her “Notebook” co-star Ryan Gosling and actor Michael Sheen. But with Linden, McAdams seems to have found a steady balance between creative partnership and home life.

Don’t worry, despite her minor break, McAdams isn’t disappearing any time soon. She continues to choose roles that resonate with her, most recently appearing. According to IMDb, she’s attached to an upcoming project titled “Send Help.”
