Fans of this Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Richard Madden starring show will have to wait a little longer for more.
Amazon’s premiere Prime series, “Citadel,” is being worked on as the second season of the thriller is pushed back. The show, which stars Chopra Jonas and Madden as spies traveling the world, was a streamer darling. Director/producers Joe and Anthony Russo executive produced the show, which cost a record $300 million to make – delivering one of the most expensive shows in history.
The Russos were set to direct every episode of the second season.
When Will the New Season Premiere?
“Citadel” also features Stanley Tucci and Lesley Manville. Season one of the show originally premiered in April 2023. Season two of “Citadel” is moving from fall 2025 to spring 2026. No reason has been given.
Season two wrapped filming in November 2024. However, according to The Hollywood Reporter, Amazon MGM wants more time to develop the second season.
While making rounds promoting the first season, Chopra Jonas expressed her excitement to work on a series as opposed to a film.
“I think that’s what was exciting about it for me,” she told Collider. “I mean, I’m a features girl, I love movie magic, and to be able to now, in this changing environment where people are consuming their media – and that’s fortunate or unfortunate – on their tablets, on their phones, and streamers, give people access around the world.”
When asked about her process accessing emotions for a dramatic scene, Chopra Jonas says it’s all about knowing your partner’s character.
“You know how they’re going to react when they’re put in a situation, what their reaction will be to someone, what their reaction will be to an environment,” Chopra Jonas begins. “So whatever is thrown at them, it’s never an isolated emotion anyway. You can’t be like, “I’m angry,” or, “I’m sad.” There’s multiple things that are happening. So it’s just informed because you know the parameters of your character.”
Worlds of “Citadel”
“Citadel” also had a couple of spin offs spawn from Prime mainstay.
Italy based “Citadel: Diana” and Indian driven “Citadel: Honey Bunny” both were meant to build upon the world of the original series setup. Both released in fall 2024.
Second seasons of the spin offs are currently in limbo. No word has been given on the status of proposed Spain and Mexico set shows.
