As Texas Tech Softball heads into its first-ever Women’s College World Series (WCWS) championship, the team has no bigger fan than Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes. The three-time Super Bowl winner and proud Texas Tech alum is showing serious support for the Red Raiders—both online and off. And while he’s backing the softball team’s title dreams, Mahomes is also laser-focused on bringing another championship back to Kansas City this NFL season.
Patrick Mahomes Is Texas Tech Softball’s No. 1 Fan
Texas Tech Softball made history by punching its ticket to the WCWS championship series for the first time. The Red Raiders stunned the softball world by knocking out four-time defending champions Oklahoma to reach the final, where they’ll face the University of Texas in a highly anticipated series starting Wednesday night in Oklahoma City.
Ahead of Game 1, the Red Raiders received a surprise package from one of their most famous supporters. Patrick Mahomes sent the entire team personalized Adidas letterman jackets in Texas Tech’s signature red and black, each featuring the player’s number. The jackets, which also display Mahomes’s Adidas logo on the back, came with matching Adidas tennis shoes. The team proudly showed off the gifts on Instagram.
The team couldn’t hide their excitement when unboxing the special delivery from their “No. 1 fan.” Mahomes has also been showing his love on social media, posting updates and cheering for Texas Tech throughout their historic WCWS run.
The NFL superstar is invested in watching his alma mater chase its first Women’s College World Series title. Mahomes even caught the Red Raiders’ games on his phone during a recent photo shoot.
QB1 Is Gearing Up for His Own Comeback Season
While Mahomes celebrates Texas Tech’s success, he’s also focused on rebounding from a rare disappointment in his own career. The Chiefs’ dominant run through the AFC last season ended in a 40-22 Super Bowl LIX loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. The defeat marked an uncharacteristic performance for Mahomes, who threw two interceptions in the loss.
Now, the Chiefs quarterback says the sting of that Super Bowl defeat is fueling the team’s offseason work. “When you lose a Super Bowl, I think there’s sometimes in those workouts, you may be a little tired, you have that extra added motivation to finish even harder, finish even stronger,” Mahomes told reporters, via USA Today. “I think it’ll be good for us at the end of the day.”
He added, “A lot of these guys hadn’t lost one (Super Bowl), hadn’t ended the season on a loss that are on this team now. So, I’m sure they’ll be motivated to go back out there and try to find a way to get to the Super Bowl and win it this year.”
Mahomes and the Chiefs will kick off their 2025 season against the Los Angeles Chargers in Brazil, followed by a home game rematch with the Eagles in Week 2. As the quarterback chases a third straight Super Bowl appearance, fans can bet he’ll keep an eye on how his fellow Red Raiders fare in their championship series.
