Orlando Bloom Wants a Female Jack Sparrow For a New ‘Pirates of The Caribbean’ Adventure

Well, this would certainly be something to see! Orlando Bloom, who breezed onto the screen in “The Curse of the Black Pearl” as Will Turner and sailed through the trilogy (and a cameo in “Dead Men Tell No Tales,” let’s not forget), just threw a provocative question into the rum.

“Do you bring in a female leading character that replicates Jack in some way? I don’t know. The jury is out on how to do it again, but if [the script] was great, [I’d be in],” he said about a potential new film.

Let’s break that down, shall we? Basically, he’s not dismissing the idea of having a new film. He’s saying that if you’re going to float a female-led spin with Jack’s swagger, make the script sharp enough that even Will Turner would say, “aye, I’d sail back.” Of course, as well as keep that ensemble chemistry intact, because he also made it very clear. “The way to win on that one is to get everybody back,” he noted. “If they can, and if everybody wants to go back.”

What Makes Jack Sparrow Irresistible?

Sparrow isn’t just a pirate; oh no. He is THE pirate, one of the most well-known out there. Eccentric, flamboyant, unpredictable, and well, Johnny Depp made him iconic. Everyone who’s watched the films correlates them to the phenomenal acting of Depp as his portrayal of the character. Trying to replicate him could feel as forced as tap-dancing on the plank.

But at the same time, a female lead would also find her own way of stealing the scene. It would be great to see a new take on the character without being a carbon copy. We’re not just talking about a wardrobe swap but rather about creating that swagger from scratch, her ghost of a mischievous grin, and her brand of cunning. As Bloom alludes, the key isn’t imitation; it’s originality tied to a strong script and chemistry.

Why Orlando Bloom Wants the Original Crew Back

Now, nostalgia alone isn’t a ticket to smooth sailing, but it most definitely matters. Bloom said it himself, noting, “Everything is in the writing, right? Everything is on the page … My thing is, if the script was great and – ideally it was everybody – it’d be kind of like ‘in for a penny, in for a pound,’ you know.”

He’s betting that if you sprinkle in Depp as Sparrow, Keira Knightley as Elizabeth Swann, Geoffrey Rush as Barbossa, and him as Will, as well as being wrapped in a brilliant screenplay, that’s your treasure map to box-office gold. Producer Jerry Bruckheimer seems to agree, saying he’s spoken to Depp, and “If he likes the way the part’s written, I think he would do it.”

There are still storm clouds, though, especially surrounding actors and their personal lives. Depp’s legal battles with Amber Heard and Rush’s courtroom showdown have been making a lot of headlines recently. But the sentiment is clear, the original spark could make this new voyage worth the risk!

This female Sparrow idea? Bold, risky, and potentially electrifying. If you’re the writer or the creative mind behind it, don’t shy away from powerful characters; we fans want it and will appreciate it.
