This $65M Utah Mansion Is the Star of HBO’s Latest Film ‘Mountainhead’

Even the gripping plot and star-studded cast of “Mountainhead” couldn’t distract us from the luxurious mansion — a scene-stealer and a main character in its own right.

Written and directed by “Succession” creator Jesse Armstrong, “Mountainhead“, which premiered on May 31 on HBO, is a darkly humorous take on how extreme wealth can distort reality.

So, where was “Mountainhead” filmed? The HBO original movie wasn’t shot at a studio but entirely inside a stunning $65 million mansion tucked above Park City, Utah. The house plays a significant role in the story, illustrating both the billionaires’ power and their sense of entrapment as they isolate themselves.

What Makes This Utah Mansion So Unique

“Mountainhead” was filmed entirely in Utah, and the spotlight shines on one incredible location — a sprawling 21,000-square-foot estate nestled in Park City.

With seven bedrooms and 16 bathrooms, the luxury mansion served as the main set for HBO’s latest satirical thriller.

Why Was This Location Chosen for ‘Mountainhead’

As per the Town & Country report, production designer Stephen Carter told Town & Country that the team scouted locations throughout British Columbia, Wyoming, and Colorado before settling on the perfect spot in Utah’s Deer Valley. “What Armstrong wanted wasn’t about a specific architectural style so much as a feeling,” location manager Paul Eskenazi shared in a New York Times interview from May 2025.

“The house needed to be remote and imposing, yes, but also strangely intimate — a place that could hold both grandeur and silence,” he continued. “It had to feel like it had a history, even if we didn’t spell it out onscreen.”

Most of “Mountainhead” was filmed inside a luxury Utah mansion, but one unforgettable scene took the cast to the top of Snowbird Mountain near Salt Lake City, where the four tech moguls boldly scrawled their net worths in lipstick on their bare chests.

Can You Rent the Mansion from Mountainhead?

If you were hoping to book the stunning “Mountainhead” mansion for your next snowy escape, you’re out of luck. The estate isn’t available for rent, and it’s tucked inside Deer Crest — a private, gated community with no public access.

Jason Schwartzman, Cory Michael Smith, Ramy Youssef and Steve Carell attend HBO’s “Mountainhead” World Premiere at Museum of Modern Art on May 22, 2025 in New York City.

Designed by architect Michael Upwall, the 21,000-square-foot property was listed at $65 million and reportedly sold for just under that, in the “high-50-million” range, according to The New York Times.

The film follows four tech billionaires — Venis Parish (Cory Michael Smith), Jeff Abredazi (Ramy Youssef), Randall Garrett (Steve Carell), and Hugo “Souper” Van Yalk (Jason Schwartzman).

As the world falls apart due to AI-driven chaos from Venis’ social media app, Traam, the group hides out in Souper’s remote mountain mansion. You can stream the film now.
