In a time where parents have so much more to worry about when raising kids, Michelle Williams has a very peaceful take on motherhood.
“You go easy on yourself as much as you can,” she told Extra. “You kind of, you give up on the small stuff and you, like, focus on a few things that feel really important to you, like a few important values that you can really become known for in your family, like, ‘There goes mom, like, harping on about her three big things.’ And then, you know, maybe the rest of it, you can really let slide.”
Now that Williams has welcomed her fourth child — and third with husband Thomas Kail — that relaxed attitude will definitely help her navigate her growing household.
Big Sister Matilda is Thrilled to Have Another Sibling
After being spotted with a new addition in their Brooklyn neighborhood, People confirmed that Michelle Williams had become a mom again for the fourth time. While details of the infant are unknown, a source says the child was born six weeks ago via surrogate. The newest bundle of joy joins 4-year-old son Hart and a 2-year-old whose name and sex haven’t been revealed. Their big sister is Matilda Ledger, Williams’ 19-year-old daughter with the late actor Heath Ledger.
While there’s quite a significant age difference between her and the younger three, a source says, “Matilda has been doting on her younger siblings.”
Williams and Kail met when she starred in Fosse/Verdon, which Kail directed. Sources told People that Matilda helped play matchmaker to the couple, and the two get along well. Photos of Matilda and her stepfather corroborate this, as they’ve been seen hanging out and laughing together.
Michelle Williams Has Opened Up About Struggles as a Working Mom
Williams has previously spoken out about the joys and difficulties of being a working mother. “My heart obviously belongs to my children; they tug at it the most,” she told People. “But I really want to be able to have both. And I think that it requires deep thought and learning and the support of other women to figure out how to get through it.”
Williams knows that finding a balance between a career and being a parent is hard, but she believes it’s essential. “It’s amazing because we all do it. That’s how every human gets here, is a woman giving of herself,” she said. “[Babies] have to arrive, and they have to be sustained, all of it. So I’m continuously searching because balance isn’t a stable place. Balance means that you’re always adjusting.”
“You have to figure it out because we have to stay in the workforce,” she said.
