Mary Kate & Ashley Olsen, whom audiences remember as the cute twins who starred in “Full House” and “New York Minutes,” to name a few, largely stay out of the spotlight as adults. The sisters, now 39, haven’t filmed a role together since 2004, and neither has acted in a production since Mary Kate’s 2011 appearance in “Beastly.”

The pair now focuses on fashion, and they were spotted by photographer Elder Ordonez through the window of their Hamptons, NY store for their successful high end label, The Row, around August 22.

The girls kept things chic but casual in similar looking oversized black outfits. The icons, who often rocked the red carpet as kids in adorable matching sets, have adopted a figure-cloaking silhouette as their signature style, which they’ve embraced for over a decade.

The reason the Olsen twins left showbiz is something many fans still want to know. By not giving interviews, having public social media, or even appearing often in public, the moguls seem to have intensified the public’s curiosity about them by staying so low key.

Slash Films says Ashley dropped some clues back in 2013 about her decision to leave the big screen in an Allure interview. The starlet said she was “reading scripts,” but ultimately told her representatives she didn’t think she could continue to give acting her full effort. “I need to do things 100%,” she said, before adding, “There’s a lot of compromise in the entertainment industry.”

For Mary Kate’s part, she revealed she doesn’t like “not being able to control the end product.”

The twins, who rarely give interviews spoke to reporter Jo Ellison in 2023 about their brand that appeared in The Financial Times. “We love beautiful fabrics,” Ashley said, before her younger twin chimed in, “No, we love beautiful things.”

She also explained why the pair doesn’t do many interviews, saying, “We’re just private people.” She also revealed she doesn’t enjoy not being able to predict the turn a conversation may take, before explaining, “after years of that, you just choose to stop talking to people if it’s not going to translate.”

Elizabeth Olsen Said She Doesn’t Compete With Her Sisters

Actress Elizabeth Olsen, known for appearing in installments of “The Avengers,” among other projects, told “Today With Jenna & Friends” in March 2025 that she admires her older sisters’ partnership. People says she told the show, “I don’t compete with it in any way.”

The 36-year-old also revealed it was fun growing up with twin big sisters, because “if I was spoiled by one, the other wanted to match it.”

She also touched on what it was like being related to such big stars when she began to consider an acting career around age 10. Although as a child, she didn’t have a word for nepotism, she had a vague feeling of “not earning something.”

Despite her discomfort with being a “nepo baby,” Elizabeth has blossomed into an MCU star in her own right. Super Hero Hype says rumors are circulating that her Secret Witch character is slated for a return.
