Actress Amanda Seyfried gave an update on what’s holding up the possible sequel “Mamma Mia! 3.”
“Show me the money!” Seyfried joked to The Hollywood Reporter when asked what’s going on with the movie. She told the site, “Producer Judy Craymer is always working on it, but Universal still has to release Wicked 2.”
According to THR, Seyfried indicated that ‘Wicked 2″ is a bigger priority for the studio than “Mamma Mia! 3.”
Amanda Seyfried Explained That ‘Mamma Mia! 2’ Ended Up Stalling ‘Wicked’

The “Mamma Mia!” franchise starred Seyfried as a young woman who returns to her mother’s Greek island hotel to prepare for her wedding and, while there, unravels the secrets of her mother’s past, ending up with three possible fathers.
Although many fans are hopeful that “Mamma Mia! 3” could eventually get made, Seyfried explained that the second movie in the franchise initially stalled “Wicked,” which was a monster hit.
“The first Wicked had to stall when Mamma Mia! 2 was getting made. It’s an either/or situation with musicals. And I have this theory that Universal just knows we’re going to do it, so they’re not in any rush. And it’s just going to cost double,” she told THR.
Amanda Seyfried Said She Hopes Meryl Streep Returns for a 3rd Movie

Seyfried also revealed in the THR interview that she hopes the writers find a way to bring back Meryl Streep’s character, even though she died in the sequel.
“From what I was told, that was her choice — so maybe it’s on her to write it,” she told THR. “I’m sure she has ideas. Meryl’s a genius. But I hope they figure it out. The one day that she was on set for the last movie was when it finally felt like we were all together again.”
She also hinted that working out what to do with Streep’s character could be one reason the third movie has not arrived yet.
According to THR, Seyfried is also busy with other projects. For example, she is starring in a new Peacock true-crime series called “Long Bright River.”
That show streams March 13. “‘Long Bright River’ is a suspense thriller series that tells the story of Mickey (Amanda Seyfried), a police officer who patrols a Philadelphia neighborhood hard-hit by the opioid crisis. When a series of murders begins in the neighborhood, Mickey realizes that her personal history might be related to the case,” the Peacock caption reads.
