Lady Gaga returned to “Saturday Night Live” on March 8 as a host and musical guest, and fans are all abuzz about her appearance.
The “Blade of Grass” singer began the show with a monologue cheekily hinting that age was just a number in the music industry.
“Last time I hosted ‘SNL,’ I was 27. I’m 38 now, which is scientifically the best age for a female pop star to be. Honestly though, most pop stars are over 40,” she told the audience, in a post shared by “Saturday Night Live” on X.
Lady Gaga then joked, “Chappell Roan is 58, Charli XCX is 75, Tate McRae is my biological grandmother.”
A fan replied on the X post, “I love this side of Lady Gaga so much. She showing more of her down to earth and vulnerable side and it’s so much fun [to] watch.
Another referenced Lady Gaga’s role in “Joker: Folie à Deux” and wrote, “She’s so funny and so Harley Quinn with this monologue.”
One fan noted on Pop Crave’s X post regarding the monologue, “She knows exactly how to poke fun at the industry’s obsession with age while hyping up fellow pop girls.”
“Lady Gaga really out here making age look like a flex!,” another fan commented.
Lady Gaga’s ‘SNL’ Performances Were a Big Hit
After her monologue, Lady Gaga kicked off the first performance of the March 8 episode of “Saturday Night Live” with her hit song, “Abracadabra.”
In true Lady Gaga fashion, she was decked out in an avant-garde jumpsuit studded with red glitter and a matching hat. Her backup dancers contrasted her bright look with black outfits and red wigs.
“Imagine keeping up the same level of creativity and artistry you had 20 years ago, this woman is a lover of the genre,” a fan wrote on X.
One commented, “This performance is amazing and that choreography is soo cool! I didn’t think they could top the music video and they surpassed it! That little box concept was executed sooo well!”
Lady Gaga later performed “Killah,” which she began by walking through the halls of “SNL” before taking the stage.
The stage was adorned in flashing lights, and midway through the song during the instrumentals, Lady Gaga began rocking out on the drums.
“Incredible start to finish. This is a top 5 all time SNL musical performance. Not even a massive fan but when someone blows the freaking roof off the building you gotta recognize it. And that guitar player is face melting good!” a fan wrote on the “Saturday Night Live” YouTube post.
Another raved, “OH MY GOD this performance has just entered the hall of fame of her career. That 80s aesthetic, the walk around the studio, the aggressiveness, the intensity, the frenetic engine of her talent causing a stir. YOU ROCK EVERYTHING, MAMA!!!!!!!!!!!!!”
