The former Kate Middleton is changing up her look, and it’s getting rave reviews.
According to Hello!, the Princess of Wales showed off lighter locks when she “stepped out for an engagement in Scotland” in May 2025.
The shade “was immediately crowned the colour of the summer,” the publication reported. The good news for Kate fans is that the princess appears to be on the rebound in her battle against cancer.
The Princess of Wales Normally Has Darker Hair
GettyAlthough the Princess of Wales has played around with different shades and colors during her time in the public eye, her hair has often been a darker chocolate brown.
Now Hello! is dubbing the Princess’s blonde highlights a new color called “bronde.”
Stuart Marsh, a creative colour director, told Hello! that the “bronde” color is “a mini masterclass in how to refresh your look without a drastic change.”
In some photos, her highlights look more auburn in tone than blonde. Over the years, Kate has also experimented with different hair lengths and has at times had her hair more layered.
Marsh explained to Hello! how people can get Kate’s look.
“For darker hair tones, bronde can be tweaked with tone and depth to match eye colour and skin complexion. The possibilities are endless!,” he told the publication.
“If you are a natural brunette, lifting the hair two or three shades adds dimension and gives a subtle, sun-kissed effect. Ask for two tones in the hair lifting process to make sure there are multiple tones running through seamlessly,” Marsh added to Hello!.
The Princess of Wales Has Been Holding a Variety of Public Appearances Lately

For example, she appeared at the British Fashion Council at 180 Studios in central London on May 14, 2025, according to Getty Images photos.
On May 8, photos show her attending a concert to” mark the 80th Anniversary of VE Day at Horse Guards Parade.” Those Getty Images photos show that Kate debuted another style trend there, wearing her hair pulled back with a black velvet bow.
She was photographed in a plum jacket and hat to “mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day on May 05, 2025,” a Getty caption says. Her hair looked darker in those photos.
