Johnny Depp Unleashes His Inner Monster in Dream Role for ‘Hyde’ Graphic Novel

Johnny Depp is back! This time, he’s not holding back the madness, and he’s letting it be known. The 62-year-old Hollywood icon just revealed his latest transformation, playing none other than Mr. Hyde in a new gothic graphic novel series titled “Hyde.” And let’s just say, he’s never looked more…monstrous. In a good way, though! Don’t worry!

“When I was a boy, I carried a little leather book of Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde in my back pocket everywhere I went,” Depp wrote on Instagram, sharing the first official trailer for the project on July 28. “To step into the world of Robert Louis Stevenson, to be welcomed into Ridley Scott’s vision… and to explore this character, it’s madness and magic! Hope you folks like it.”

Directed and overseen by legendary filmmaker Ridley Scott and created by Jesse Negron, “Hyde” reimagines the classic horror story with a dark twist. In this spooky but exciting version, Hyde has already destroyed Dr. Jekyll, who roams the underworld of Victorian London. He begins to experiment with a twisted serum to create others like him.

Creepy? Yes. Captivating? Absolutely!

A Childhood Obsession Comes to Life for Johnny Depp

For Depp, this isn’t just another character; rather, it’s a full-circle moment. The “Sweeney Todd” star says he’s been obsessed with the split-personality classic since childhood. This marks a new role that challenges his personal journey rather than a professional gig. “To build within the world of Robert Louis Stevenson’s masterful characters… and inexplicably having the opportunity to explore—it’s surprising to me. And hopefully, surprising him. It’s insane and beautiful to receive that trust from Ridley,” Depp told Variety.

The visuals are pure nightmare fuel, full of dark colors and shadowed built corners. Set in a stylized version of Halloween 1899 London, the artwork is moody, grotesque, and dripping in gothic flair. Depp’s likeness is unmistakably twisted. His Mr. Hyde is nearly unrecognizable, lurking through sewers and cloaked in shadow. Typical Depp, if you ask us!

As if that wasn’t enough, Depp has also been keeping busy musically. He recently hit the stage with his longtime bandmate Alice Cooper, performing a searing cover of Ozzy Osbourne’s classic track. Whether it’s ripping through riffs or diving into the dark mind of Mr. Hyde, Depp seems to be having one hell of a renaissance.

The Fans Are Eating It Up

Shortly after the trailer dropped, the internet lit up with fan reactions. One commenter gushed, “Only you @johnnydepp can always make insanity look so fun!!!! Can’t wait for this.” Another wrote simply, “This will be incredible!!!❤️ Always love what you bring to us!!!.”

And they’re not wrong; Depp’s return to the limelight, after years of legal battles and media frenzy, has been a slow but deliberate rebuild. Hyde feels like a passion project. Most importantly, it’s a creative outlet that lets him blend his love of storytelling, visual artistry, and pure theatrical chaos.

So, is Hyde a comeback or a love letter to horror? Maybe both! It’s a deep dive into the psyche of a man who’s lived many lives onscreen and off. Depp’s dream role has finally clawed its way into the world, and it’s looking gloriously dark.
