Actor John C. Reilly Surprises Rock Icon With a ‘Happy Birthday’ Serenade

Not only did actor John C. Reilly throw the ceremonial first pitch at an MLB game on Wednesday, July 9, but he also ended up singing “Happy Birthday” to rock icon Jack White.

The hilarious moment occurred before the Detroit Tigers took on the Tampa Bay Rays at Comerica Park.

“Will you join me in singing ‘Happy Birthday’ to my friend Jack White?” Reilly asked the crowd. “On three. One, two, three.”

White celebrated his 50th birthday on Wednesday. It was a fitting location as “The White Stripes” singer is orignally from Detroit.

The MLB’s Instagram account shared the clip and wrote, “did they just become best friends?? jk, they already were.”

During the clip, the cameras showed White appearing to experience a mixture of emotions. The singer looked at first as though he was slightly embarrassed. However, White appeared to be amused by the funny gesture as he was smiling.

White later reposted the moment on Thursday and added it to his story.

The two have been friends for years and bonded over their similar upbringings, according to the New York Post.

The two also appeared together in the 2007 musical comedy “Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story.” Reilly played the titular role, while White briefly appeared as the rock legend Elvis Presley.

Reilly stated after the cooning session that White had no idea it was going to occur.

Fans Dish on the Sweet Moment

Fans of the two quickly shared how much they enjoyed the heartwarming moment.

“This is so flipping wholesome!” one user wrote. “Jack you deserve all this and more for all the superb sounds and joy you’ve created over the past couple decades. All the love and health to you! Keep on rockin’”

Another added, “Oh this is just the best!!!! 🥰”

Others expressed how there needs to be another collaboration between the two.

“We need you two to make a buddy movie!” one noted.

White Also Got Another Surprising Birthday Gift

The “Seven Nation Army” singer shared with his fans that he got a cellphone for the first time. He told fans the surprising news in a lengthy Instagram post.

“Well y’all it’s either all over for me now or just the beginning,” he began. “I am now the reluctant owner of a cellular telephone for the first time in my life! A lovely 50th birthday present courtesy of my gorgeous and thoughtful wife Mrs. Olivia Jean (who took these photos as well.)”

He added that while he wasn’t thrilled over the new electronic device, he was happy to have made it 50 years without one.

“I thought if I could make it to 50 years old at least without ever having one that I could be proud of myself, and I am. Can’t wait to talk to you all soon,” White wrote.
