Jimmy Fallon and The Weeknd gave some seniors at Fordham University a graduation weekend they will never forget.
People reports that the two celebrities crashed a graduation celebration at Lincoln Center campus in New York City on May 16.
Fallon kicked things off, walking in and shouting out to the crowd.
“Yo, what’s up! Congratulations, Class of 2025!,” he yelled, and then asked a very important question. “Can I plug my phone in, maybe?”
He then started playing The Weeknd’s “Blinding Lights,” and then the singer walked in and began performing. He even went on to do an encore, singing “Can’t Feel My Face.”
“That’s how you do it! Goodbye everyone!,” Fallon shouted before the two left.
The Weeknd Recaps The Graduation Surprise on ‘The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon’
After the two crashed the graduation celebration, The Weeknd then joined Jimmy Fallon on ‘The Tonight Show’ on May 15 and recapped the fun surprise that they pulled off.
“Thank you for doing what you did this afternoon for those college students,” Fallon started.
“Yeah, that was amazing. That was fun,” The Weeknd responded. “I didn’t expect it to be that crazy.”
“You were the best,” Fallon added. “You didn’t think it was going to be that crazy?”
“No, I seriously didn’t,” The Weeknd said. “What if they hated us?”
Fallon then went on to ask when he realized the plan actually worked.
“When they started screaming for you, actually,” The Weeknd responded. “When you went out first.”
The Weeknd’s appearance on “The Tonight Show” was to help promote his feature film “Hurry Up Tomorrow,” which was released in theaters on May 16. He both wrote and starred in it, with the title coming from his album with the same name.
The Weeknd’s Reflects on Tom Cruise’s Lip Sync Battle to ‘Can’t Feel My Face’
Fallon and The Weeknd also went on to talk about a viral moment that occurred on “The Tonight Show” in 2015.
Tom Cruise joined the late-night host and went on to take part in his popular Lip Sync Battle. And the actor chose The Weeknd’s song, “Can’t Feel My Face,” referring to the singer as “enormously talented.” So, 10 years later, The Weeknd revealed how that helped his career.
“I definitely saw that. It actually helped the song,” he told Fallon. “It helped it peak to the record-breaking top, thanks to him obviously.”
Partially because of Cruise’s performance, “Can’t Feel My Face” actually became The Weeknd’s first-ever No. 1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100.
