Harrison Ford Teams Up with Jeff Daniels

Fans of “Dumb and Dumber” who have been waiting to see Jeff Daniels return to comedy should subscribe to Apple TV+ soon. He will be joining Harrison Ford and Jason Segel’s hit show.

Deadline reported March 12, 2025 that the “Steve Jobs” actor is taking on a recurring role as Jason Segel’s father in the show “Shrinking.”

The show stars Segel as Jimmy, a therapist who takes a more personal approach in his patients’ lives in order to see more concrete results. He is also dealing with grieving for his wife who was killed in a drunk driving accident.

“Shrinking” also stars Harrison Ford, Jessica Williams, Lukita Maxwell, Micahel Urie, Luke Tennie, Christa Miller and Ted McGinley. The show has been nominated for countless awards including Golden Globes, Primetime Emmys, Screen Actors Guild, and Writers Guild Awards.

A Comedic Return to Form

Daniels has not done comedy in some time. His most recent roles have been television based on top of being more drama focused. Daniels has been in Netflix’s “A Man in Full” and the joint Showtime/Prime Video streaming “American Rust.”

His last comedic role was the 2014 “Dumb and Dumber” sequel, “Dumb and Dumber To.”

Daniels spends intervening years on stage, too, acting in major Broadway productions. In 2016, he took on the role of Ray Brooks in “Blackbird” at Belasco Theatre. From 2018-2019 and in 2021, he played Atticus Finch in “To Kill a Mockingbird” at Shubert Theatre.

The actor has been nominated many times over. Multiple nods at the Golden Globes, Primetime Emmys and Screen Actors Guild Awards have resulted in two Emmy wins.

Apple TV+ Is Where Daniels Will Be for a Bit

Daniels will be working with Apple TV+ for some time seeing as how he is already slated for another starring role on the platform. The streamer is developing “Dilettante,” a story about former Vanity Fair editor Graydon Carter. The show is inspired by a memoir of the same name by Dana Brown.

“Dilettante: True Tales of Excess, Triumph, and Disaster” follows Brown in his 20’s going from college dropout to Carter’s assistant at Vanity Fair in the 90’s.

Oddly enough, actor Jeff Bridges also played a fictionalized version of Carter in the 2008 comedy “How To Lose Friends And Alienate People” – also based on a book.

Daniels next yet to be released role will be as Ronald Regan in Michael Russell Gunn’s “Reykjavik.” He is joined by Jared Harris, J.K. Simmons, Aya Cash and John Ross Bowie. The movie is currently in post production and awaiting distribution.
