Hollywood suffered a great loss with the passing of legendary actor Gene Hackman and his wife, Betsy Arakawa. The couple was found deceased in their home along with one of their pets, leaving fans and loved ones in mourning. Now, Hackman’s daughter has been seen in public for the first time since the devastating news.
Leslie Anne Allen Seen in Public Following Family Tragedy
Leslie Anne Allen, the youngest of Hackman’s three children, was spotted running errands in Los Angeles on Sunday. Her public appearance comes just days after Dr. Heather Jarrell, Chief Medical Examiner for New Mexico, confirmed the cause of death of Hackman and his wife.
Authorities stated that no foul play was involved. The couple’s passing came to light after a maintenance worker, concerned about not having seen them recently, alerted officials. Since the tragedy, Hackman’s daughters, Elizabeth and Leslie, along with his granddaughter, Annie, have spoken out about their loss.
In a joint statement to the PA news agency, per CNN, they shared, “It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father, Gene Hackman and his wife, Betsy. He was loved and admired by millions around the world for his brilliant acting career, but to us he was always just Dad and Grandpa. We will miss him sorely and are devastated by the loss.”
Gene Hackman Shared Three Children With His First Wife
Gene Hackman, known for his iconic roles in “Hoosiers,” “The French Connection,” and “Superman,” was also a devoted father. Unlike many Hollywood stars, he fiercely protected his personal life from the spotlight.
According to People, Hackman married his first wife, Faye Maltese, in 1956. Together, they had three children: Christopher Allen Hackman, Elizabeth Jean Hackman (born in 1962), and Leslie Anne Hackman (born in 1966). The couple eventually divorced in 1986, but Hackman remained a family man, keeping his private life away from Hollywood’s glare.
Despite his fame, Hackman often described himself as a “common man,” a quality that endeared him to audiences. In an interview with film critic John C. Tibbetts, he shared that he preferred to keep his life “fairly common.”
In 2000, just a few years before retiring, Hackman credited his children with helping him decide to continue acting rather than transition to directing. “My kids helped me see that it just wasn’t the best thing for me to do,” he reflected.
Now, as his family mourns this tremendous loss, Hackman’s legacy remains undeniable on and off the screen.
