En Vogue Singer Says She Has Been Living in Her Car for Years: ‘I Was So Free’

’90s singer of En Vogue, Dawn Robinson, revealed on her YouTube channel that she has been living in her car for the last three years.

She told fans that around 2020, she was living with her parents in Las Vegas, but issues with her mom forced her to move out.

“I love my mom, but she became very angry, and a lot of her anger, she was taking out on me and I was her target all the time,” Robinson said. “I don’t understand it and I still don’t.”

Robinson explained that she left the house and was sleeping in her car for a month until a manager convinced her to move in with him in Los Angeles. However, the space was tight so she ended up living in a hotel until it became unfeasible for her to stay there.

The singer then researched communities who lived in their cars and motor homes. “I loved what I was seeing. I just thought, ‘Wow, I could do that,'” she said.

“March 9, 2022, is when I left the hotel,” she told fans. “That was a sense of freedom that I had. I was so free.”

Robinson doesn’t want fans to feel bad for her and shared the hopeful message, “It’s up to me, win or lose. When I succeed again, because I will, when I’m on top again or when I have a resurgence of my career again the way that I want, getting to that point is only up to me.”

Fans Support Robinson After She Shared Her Living Situation

Robinson shared her YouTube episode on Instagram and wrote, “Episode 6 is up, FINALLYYYYY! Took me long [enough] lol! Please check out my YouTube channel officialdawnrobinson Luh y’all.”

Fans flocked to her post to lend their support, and one wrote, “You can come stay with me. We have to support each other in times like this.”

Another posted, “Plz start a gofundme. U know how many fans would donate to u? Including myself.. god bless u that took a lot of guts.”

A fellow nomad shared, “Been living in my car for 5 years!! Welcome to the club. See you on the road!”

Robinson left the quartet En Vogue in the late ’90s amid the height of their success, and she told “YouKnow IGotSoul” in 2020 of her time with the group, “Our sound was magical, nobody sounded like En Vogue. Each group has their own sound. What I love is that they’ve all given us the props we deserve.”

However, Robinson recalled that after she left the group after disagreements about finances, she had to find her own footing. “It was really scary! I’m used to looking to my left and seeing two girls and one to my right! It’s like I always say, you come into this world alone, and you gotta figure out life for yourself. It’s like leaving home for the first time and going to college.”

As for if she would ever go back to En Vogue, Robinson said, “I won’t say never,” but added that she would only do so if the new member from 2003, Rhona Bennett, bowed out. “I think she’s great, she has never done anything to me, she’s not a bad person at all. I do know that she needs to step back if we are going to do a reunion at all. It just needs to be the four of us,” Robinson admitted.
