2025 is shaping up to be a groundbreaking year for horror movies, and the new version of “I Know What You Did Last Summer” is at the top of many lists. The film features Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze, but it stars a brand new cast of characters. However, many want to see reviews of the movie before traveling to their local theaters. 

The 2025 version of “I Know What You Did Last Summer” is set to hit theaters on July 18. Jennifer Kaytin Robinson directed the film and also served as one of its writers. Although not credited in the movie, it is highly rumored that Brandy Norwood will make a cameo appearance.

The official reviews for the 2025 version of “I Know What You Did Last Summer” will debut later in the day on July 16. However, people who attended the film’s world premiere are already sharing their thoughts. So far, the reactions are widely positive. 

A film critic who posts to x under the name Films By Juan gave a positive review. This person said, “#IKnowWhatYouDidLastSummer is one of the greatest legacy sequels! With excellent kills, a thrilling pace & a fantastic ensemble, notably Love Hewitt & Prinze Jr., who DELIVERED some of the best parts of the movie.

Juan continued, “It’s undeniably a perfect summer slasher classic. AVOID SPOILERS!” 

Sophia Soto also left a positive review on the X platform. They said, “I can finally talk about #IKnowWhatYouDidLastSummer, which was my favorite movie of 2025 so far, to the point where I literally left the theater saying I wanted to see it again immediately. The cast was phenomenal, new and returning. They all worked so well off of each other.”

“I Know What You Did Last Summer” is getting strong audience reactions, but how are the movie reviews on Rotten Tomatoes? Currently, the film has a 46 percent. While not exceptional, this is pretty typical for the genre of horror films.

Meagan Navarro gave the film a positive review, saying, “The higher body count and a new cast of genuinely likable characters help introduce this legacy sequel to new audiences, but it’s one that’s best suited and tailor-made for the die-hard IKWYDLS fan.”

Pat Bulfamante said, “I Know What You Did Last Summer toes a line between well-executed slasher and self-aware legacy sequel that I’m sure will please fans of the franchise and slasher lovers all the same.”

Regarding negative reactions to “I Know What You Did Last Summer,” Mary Kassel said, “The beloved campy horror franchise returns with a fun cast and tongue-in-cheek humor, but it never fully captures what made the original a hit.”
