Ben Affleck Praises Ex Jennifer Lopez, Brings Her Kids to Premiere

Despite fans still wondering what led to the couple’s divorce, Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez continue to put on a united front. Whether it’s Violet Affleck hanging out with Lopez’s sister on a visit to Yale or Violet hanging out with her former stepmom in the Hamptons, the bonds the two share with each other’s kids remain strong. With Affleck’s new film, The Accountant 2, set to release, he made it a point to reveal that the premiere was a serious family affair, with his kids joining in the fun as well.

“It’s a great night. The kids are here, Jen’s kids are here. I’m very, very excited,” Affleck told Entertainment Tonight (ET). “My kids and Jennifer Lopez’s kids. I’m very excited, I’m proud of the movie, I love the movie, and I love when all the kids come out. It’s really fun, it’s exciting.”

“That’s the kind of thing — the relationships that you can have with children like that, it’s the joy of my life,” he added. “And those kids are amazing, and I’m glad that this is a movie they want to come to.”’

At SXSW, Affleck told the crowd that he’d spent months learning to line dance for The Accountant 2. Unfortunately, he’s fairly certain his kids will make fun of him for it.

“They are going to give me so much [expletive],” he joked. “My son just wants to see the dad from Invincible. You know what I mean? That’s all he cares about. They’re all accustomed to being [rolls eyes and pretends to look annoyed], but that’s part of what being a teenager is, I guess. Maybe it’ll wear off when they get to their 20s.”

At one point in the conversation, ET’s Nischelle Turner told Affleck that it was “really dope” that he brought Lopez’s kids and is “continuing those relationships.” “Listen, I don’t read the stuff online much,” he responded. “And sometimes I get the sense that people perpetuate this idea of like, I don’t know, they wanna find something negative to talk about.”

“For the record, Jennifer Lopez is spectacular, great to my kids, great ongoing relationship with them,” Affleck continued. “I love her kids. They’re wonderful. She’s [an] enormously important, tremendous person with a lot of integrity who I adore and am grateful to.”

Affleck has recently emphasized that there is no sordid or ugly reason for their split. “There’s a tendency to look at breakups and want to identify root causes or something,” he said. “But honestly … the truth is much more quotidian than probably people would believe or would be interesting,” he told GQ in an interview.

“There’s no scandal, no soap opera, no intrigue,” he added. “The truth is, when you talk to somebody, ‘Hey, what happened?’ Well, there is no, ‘This is what happened.’ It’s just a story about people trying to figure out their lives and relationships in ways that we all sort of normally do.”
